Check out the swedish band Andromeda, they have released four records, and there latest album "The Immunity Zone" (2008) is realy good. Maybe this is a stretch but i think they have some Marillion vibe going on, with the main influence being Dream Theater.

Very nice produced with a lot of good keyboard playing if you are in to that.

Now you all know what im listening to

Go check them out!

Great recommendation. The Immunity Zone was one of the better albums put out last year along side Seventh Wonder's Mercy Falls.

I've been listening to a lot of Dreamscape and Shadow Gallery, both also have a DT like vibe.

I love Porcupine Tree ♥

I like only selected stuff by Dream Theater -
like Octavarium, A Change of Seasons, Anna Lee, Hollow Years, I Walk Beside You (the songs)

Also love Opeth (Black Rose Immortal gives me the chills!)

Any Recommendations?

Great thread to give a bump to. My list is bands who have IMO moved prog rock on, rather than re-cycling older more traditional prog rock sounds and sub genres. My favourites of a rather eclectic selection are

Riverside - as already recommended

Porcupine Tree - again as recommended

The Flaming Lips - totally out there, genre bending to the point of being progressive progressive rock.

Jah Wobble - in his various incantations and collaborations.

Mercury Rev - etherial, melodic, very imaginative.

Cornelius - Japanese sound master.

The Beta Band - heavy modern prog rock with a twist.

Tunng - described as folkatronic, to which add very clever and wistful.

The Pineapple Thief - as previously recommended.

I'm more into prog metal like Tool, Riverside and maybe Opeth and Dream Theater when I start listening to them.

But for prog rock I like Rush. The Mars Volta is pretty good too.

An excellent prog metal band are Oceansize. If you can get a listen to 'Everyone into Position' it is a superb album.

Dream Theater ftw!!!

Astra - The Weirding

worth a listen.

contains elements of post rock, modern progressive, and splashes of metal.

in other words, it's great.

the sound quality is pretty average, and smacks of its origins (recorded by the band, on their own).

check it out.

Hi Guys

Thanks for all the suggestions. I used to listen Rush earlier. The suggestions about Spock's Beard, Riverside and Porcupine Tree are awesome.

Regards

Sai

Progressive/metal crossover, Martin Grech. Anthemic and very atmospheric. Try Guiltless from Unholy and the amazing Open Heart Zoo from the album of the same name.

Give Phideaux a try. Doomsday afternoon (always a fun one to stick on at work !) and Number 7 are worth checking out. Check out Lee Abrahams "black and white" cd. Also weedstash.com is a great source of material.

I notice that some people aren't sure about Pain of Salvation. I at first was not, it took a while to get the stuff beyond their 1st and maybe even 2nd album. Once you do, it is probably one of the best listening experiences ever. Be is easily a top album for me (Besides the fact that I am a Phi Minor and love that kind of crap...) it has great instrumentation. The big thing about the band is the power and emotion, but they do have great skill. Look at some live stuff and see how well they solo, the drum beats can be easy one minute and then very polyryhthmic the next and sound flawless. Really though, pay attention to the vocals and the layered elements and harmonies. It some great music.

Here is a good example, this has some good emotion (Not as much as others mind you so keep looking) and is a good prog piece. The main riff itself is tough, the timing is weird and has a cool descending patter on 7,6,5,4,3,2,1 hits/plucks on the instruments. The ending also has a solo to showcase the skill of the players:
