Difficult to Reterminate?

I only use a 1/8" mini with my DT770 (which the previous owner had reterminated to a 1/4"), rather than use an adapter I would prefer to just reterminate.

Already picked up the soldering iron (Weller w/ a nice fine tip), some 63/37 solder, and a nice 1/8" mini jack.

Whats the best/easiest method to go about it?

When one has made a decision to terminate a cable, even if it will be very difficult to succeed by advancing straight ahead, it will not do to think about doing it in a long, roundabout way. One's heart may slacken, he may miss his chance, and by and large there will be no success.

The Way of the Samurai is one of immediacy, and it is best to dash in headlong.

*cough* i mean to say, lop off the old connector about an inch above the 1/4", then disassemble the 1/4" plug so you can get an idea which wires should be soldered to which lug.

aside from that, see the sticky about making 'interconnects' for basic cable making stuff.

When you cut off the cable, take a look at the wires, some wires are coated with a red/green coating on it. you'll either have to pre-burn it off the cable, or buy some solvent and dissolve it first, otherwise it wont solder properly. it mite stick, but the resistance will be high. I'd also order another plug too if your plug's tension break is a permanent one. A nice neutrik straight plug only runs at about 3 buks
