Thanks warubozu!

One last question, is the cord detachable for V-6 or 7506?

Gear mentioned in this thread:

No, the cord isn't detachable for both cans.

I just bought them so far i would say 30 minutes into listening i think my search is over for full sized headphones :D, i will be keeping these and i have sent back countless makes and models back including senns. The bass is used where it counts, headphones usually produce un natural bass for mainstream music which is sad really, these phones produce the sound as its intended and works with every genre greatly. Sony V6 i love you!

It is giving me shivers in almost all my music, this has never happened easily before :o.

My Sony MDR V6 arrived today (shipped from Hongkong). I paid 40,50 USD/ 31,09 EUR, shipping costs included.

I purchased it on eBay. I read so much about this headphone and it's reputation I couldn't help myself to order these at this great price. So far I am impressed. I did a bit comparing with my Senn RS 160 and obviously the Sony MDR V6 can't compete with that phone. Not surprisingly, also seeing the big difference in price.

They do ok with most music but they do great at pumping/energetic trance songs (Trance Energy 2010 album for example). With this type of music I would say they sound really good, maybe just as good as my Senns. I find the comfort of this phones seeing the pricetag pretty good. Next to that I think the looks are ok. They really are unique. Maybe because of the materials used (more metal instead of the ordinary plastic you see nowadays). And it's also the history that comes with this cans.  I read on Wikipedia that this model dates back to the 1980's?? (wow). What I really liked was how portable these cans are and how nicely they fit in the pouch which was included. I was also impressed how well these block outside noise, especially comparing with other ''budget'' cans we have had in our household in the past. For people who are looking for fun headphones at a bargain price, this is a higly recommended item.

For myself I will be probably using them for my Ipod Touch (32 GB - 3rd generation) on the go.

Ok, I found out they don't do that as great with electronic as I stated before because it misses a bit of bass (did some comparing with my Sony MDR-EX500LP and Bose Quietcomfort 15 from my brother) imho. These cans seem to be more balanced and neutral sounding. But then again, they will not fatigue my ears as quick because of this reason. I mentioned also some sound leakages at higher volumes but that maybe be a good thing as it will protect my ears (turning down volume to the point no one will hear what music I am playing).

I don't think there are many big differences between these three phones except for some comfort. With the in-ears being 50 pounds back then and the Bose is 350 EUR these cans do amazingly well for the price.

The problem is that the bass is drowned out by the over abundance of treble.  Use an EQ to decrease the treble (say everything from 3000 Hz on up by a few dB, or whatever sounds right to you) and you'll get a little more bass.  Don't increase the bass, just decrease the treble.  It's better to use an EQ to cut frequencies than boost frequencies.

They are what can be considered a balanced or neutral headphone.  At the same time they accentuate the treble.  So think of them as neutral with a strong treble emphasis.  So they're not really a true neutral.

I edited my last post. I know what problem I had with the HD 280 Pro, it is because of the screw on option that makes the plug a bit bigger (they all are 3.5 mm plugs though). That way it is easier to get out a little bit which will ensure for loss in sound quality (because it isn't fully connected anymore). As long as you don't throw my iPod all over the place while having it connected (I tend to do this while listening on the couch and such) I think I won't have this problem.

@ Ham Sandwich. Thanks for your reply. I only can use the equalizer on my iPod touch (3nd generation) but I will try several ones listed there and see which one suits me the best.

The "Deep" EQ preset is probably a good one.  Unfortunately it boosts the bass just a bit which means the bass could end up clipping.

The "Treble Reducer" is an option.  It just lowers treble.  No boost in the bass.  So no risk of causing clipping.  But it reduces the treble too much.  It would be better if it did a shelf style EQ instead of a continual downward slope.

Or just put cotton in your ears to attenuate the highs.  :)

I compared ''Deep'' to ''no EQ'' and when you just focus a little you can hear it sounds (a lot) better. Also the volume seems to go down (as the same for sound leakage) which will be good for my hearing in general. It really seems these cans come alive with the right EQ. Thank you!

The V6 are responsive to EQ changes and predictable about EQ changes.  That's one of the things that makes them good for monitoring and studio type work.

Here's a page that shows the EQ curves of the iPod EQ presets.  You can see what the "Deep" EQ preset is doing.  A little bump in the lows and a little attenuation of the highs.  Perfect for the V6.

I have the MDR-7506 Headphones. Would they benefit from a headphone amp like Headstage Arrow HE? I will be using the new ipod touch when it comes out this fall to play my music. From what I heard, the line out of the ipods are pretty good.

I replaced the stock Sony MDR V6 pads with Beyer Dynamic DT 250's velour pads. People say they are more comfortable and noise-isolating than the original pads. I  agree upon this matter. They are probably more comfortable because they are bigger (stock pads didn't go enitrely around my ear). They set me back about 22 EUR where as I got the Sony MDR V6 for 33 EUR I think (shipping included in both situations). So relatively these pads are quite expensive, yet I am happy with them. I bought them from Musikhaus Thomann (Thomman.de). Ordering through Sweetwater would probably be cheaper (since shipping should be free; don't know if this is for Europe too). But then I may have to pay extra tax at my front door (USA -> EU shipment, customs can be bitches over here).

the sony V6 or 7506 are wonderful cans, I prefer them to many other more expensive ones, the detail they give is just amazing, plus you can do the beyer pad mod and you have yourself an ultra confy pair of cans. BUT BEWARE!!!! no matter how tempting it is...DO NOT BUY FROM EBAY. get your pair from an authorized dealer,  the fake sony´s sold from China, Hong Kong or any part of asia through ebay are excellent copies, very difficult to tell them from the original, except for the sound.

my friend thought he had gotten a great deal for these until he heard mine (got them from a local sony dealer), needless to say he was so angry he threw them on the floor in disgust. I suspect a lot of bad reviews these cans get is actually from listening to the fake ones. hope this is of help.

I got my Sony MDR V6 from Ebay (low price) and they sound legit to me. Bought them from a power-seller with a good rating.

However, I also purchased Monster Turbine Pro Golds from Ebay in a private auction -> fake/sound horrible + hurt my ears!
So you should definitely be careful. I just bought them from Ebay because I couldn't find them anywhere else. First looked for local dealers but couldn't find any in my area (The Netherlands). Won't buy electronics from Ebay again as it is too risky.

I hope you did not get em from a seller in China or Hong Kong, if you did I´m sorry to say but you most likely have a fake..they sound alright but nothing close to the original.
