I'll tell you what, listening to this Dream Theater album with my PX100s, there is plenty of bass for me. It's not bloated or anything, it's nice and tight and punchy. I wonder how better headphones would sound. I love how the drums and such have a nice tight response.

My zune 80 came in from Originals. Ordered on Friday, Fedex delivered on Monday morning. Impressive, considering it came from China to NY. It came in a big flat white box. Inside it had a poster of the custom art, a sticker of the artwork, a short bio of the artist. The zune was inside another white box, mimicking the outside one. This is some of the nicest packaging I've seen, and would look awesome as a gift.
The player itself is beautiful, but the artwork on the bag is annoying because it makes the steel "sandy' and not smooth. Screen is nice and big, software is okay, but it crashed once on me so far.
Now I need to save up for some earbuds or portable cans the included buds are outright awful, and my only other pair of headpones are senn 497's and Denon d2000. Suprisingly the zune handled the Denon d2000s fairly well, even without an amp.

The PX100 works great with my zune 30. Punchy bass and I don't use the EQ. I listen to all genres of music, but mostly R&B, Hip Hop and Classic Rock.

Using the PA2V2 amp, I notice a slight difference but not enough to justify using it all the time. I'm sure when I pick up the hd650 I'll need that amp.

Yeah, the 96 WMA files that sounded okay on the ZVM sound pretty bad on the Zune. Luckily, I had a lot of old files ripped via EAC at 256 VBR, so I can just take them off CD-Rs and add them to my Zune library. I am going to reformat the ZVM (wiping off all the files) and turning it into lossless player, with only select artists, to plug into my home sterero. Never liked the sound of WMA and MP3s on my PSB speakers, but maybe at lossless, the ZVM line out will be okay on the home stereo. It's always something.

Well, this is pretty much the first review Ive read to go all out and say the Zune 80 is king, over the Zune 30. Did you blind A/B?

Recently bought an 80 and soundstage is excellent and airy can't understand why Zunes get such bad press but I recall another Microsoft product getting bad reviews (xbox) Amazing how things change now if only they would get Vista right.

To most of these reviewers, if the product doesn't wear a certain apple shaped logo, it is trash.

Also, your contradicting yourself. You are saying "The 30 only sounds ok if you use the EQ". Yet all the EQ does is add artificial enhancements to the audio, and in the end, does not provide for the "flatter and more detailed spectrum" that you seem to so much care for in the Zune 80. Fishy....
