I've never heard the 595s but they must be some really dull sounding phones to make the 650s sound unforgiving and harsh. I guess everything is relative...

Great, so my previously researched upgrade path from HD555 -> HD650 has suddenly moved back to a HD600 shortcut, it seems.

Hmm . . . good thread, btw.

I found a pair of hd555 for $45, would it be worth the upgrade from the px100 or just wait to get the hd600 or hd650? I don't read much good about the hd555 or the hd515. It's all about the hd595 so far!

I didn't like the 555 I heard. I like the PX100 and the HD600 - have both (actually 2 PX100 and 1 PMX100 1 HD600).

I'd wait if I were you and keep saving $$$

As a Grado fan, I prefer the 600. The 650 is better than the 600 in many aspects, but I hear them a bit dark for me.

I hear subtleties on both low and high ends with the HD555 which my PX100 (either of them - have two) can't really convey. Yet, it offers a airy middle and overall soft presentation, so has its own balance of sound. And, the HD555 are very easy to drive. Still, I love the PX100 sound for my portable and even at home - it's great for simple bouncing around different sounds . . . an overall, inexpensive workhorse.

Still, I got the HD555s knowing they would be a transition to higher-chain cans, from aspects such as getting used to the fit, feel and sensation of a larger, around-the-ear can to a deeper soundstage and slightly more isolation, etc.. I've enjoyed the experience and have been considering a HD650 upgrade . . . maybe revisiting the notion of a HD600 move up, instead.

Thanks wader for the feedback. I think I'll wait and get the hd600 or hd650 from my brother as he can buy them at 50% off. I think that will be a better choice for me.

Even though HD595 is brighter, I prefered HD650 in a rock listen. They provide more overally enjoyable and full experience! Was it the third time I said this? :c

Yes -- I'm trying to get this thread back to its rails.

I have the 595 with a beresford (last mod) and an av710, I just bought a pair of used 600 from germany at 125 euros (too cheap i couldn't resist), I'll get an amp at the end of the month in the meantime I will test them with my equipment, just waiting for them :drool:

listen to the 650 for a week or two straight, then switch to the 600. this will emphasize the differences or the weaknesses of the 600, which are that in comparison to the 650 it can sound a bit slow, somewhat bass shy, and a tad thin. neither are fatiguing and the 600 is more comfortable, as it has less of a clamping feeling. whether the 600 is overall more balanced is hard to say.
