Cambridge Audio Azur 840c -- Where to buy where it's not backordered??

I'm looking for the next high-end component in my rig, and I've decided on using the upsampling (24/384) DAC in the Azur 840c. It's gotten tremendous reviews and has been compared to other CD players around the $5,000+ price point. If you haven't read about it, you should. It's supposed to be incredible.

Anyway, it costs around $1,600 (but you can get it for $1,400). The problem is that every single store I have checked in the U.S. and the U.K. has it on backorder. To anyone interested in it: Do you know how long it will be on backorder for? And do they want a deposit to put you on the preorder list?

I am also looking for a good pair of 1.5 meter analog RCA cables to go with it. I ordered a Cobalt Cable Digital Coax which was about $60, and is compared to cables costing 10 times as much. A pair of their analog cables is only about $90. Anyone else have some suggestions for some very good (but not excessively or unreasonably priced) interconnects? The Azur 840c has balanced outputs but my amp does not have balanced inputs, so I just need a good pair of RCA interconnects.

If anyone could help with the above questions (and also give some reviews of the 840c if you own it) I would be grateful.

Thanks, and welcome back to Head-Fi. It's great to finally have it back up. You may need to redo your signature and correct your URL links, and your PMs are probably gone, emoticons aren't back, but other than that it's running again. The staff put in lots of hard work to get it back up and I am grateful to all of them. Myself and a few others were going through "Head-Fi Withdrawal Symptoms".

Happy beginning of the Christmas season, fellow Jews, Christians, and Aliens.
Regards,
Phil

Is it as good as claimed? "The best CD player under 5K by editor-in-cheif of absolute sound."

The 740c is very good indeed, just a little less impressive than a DAC1, so the 840c - with improved op amps and filtering - should be stunning.

I would just wait for a dealer to get it back in stock, personally. Most places are selling it for $1375 (with or without shipping, depending on the dealer) and the ones I've seen on Audiogon isn't all that much, if at all, cheaper than that.

Oh, and when I was looking for one, most dealers I talked to told me it would be a week to two wait, though I don't know how true that was since I found a local dealer with an open box unit with full warranty.

That is only one person's opinion.I wonder how many under $5000 CD players he's compared it too.

Of course, I know that. I own the Exemplar Denon 2900, which is said to best anything under 5K myself and comparable to many 7 or 8K CD players. I got lucky and picked it up quite cheap on audiogon.

Ok great, I'll check those places out. Now how about cables? Any recommendations based on my original post? Thanks.

Maybe this is a bit obvious but have you checked Richer Sounds? They own (or partly own) Cambridge Audio so they're the preferred retail outlet for Cambridge gear. There are stores all over the country so if the web store is sold out you might be able to get a brick and mortar store to ship you one.

They come up used on a pretty regular basis on Audiogon. Price are around $950.00 to 1200.00. As new as they are, I would grab one of the used ones and resell if your not happy or upgrade. You wont loose any money this way.
