ok...
Anyone here know WHY they changed the ipod design?
its now very hard to use the thumb wheel...

Should i get a 4g or 5g instead?

Sorry...
let me give a bit more detail

The new 6g ipods (classics) have a smaller thumb wheel to navigate the ipod menus... because of this new implementation the response of surfing through the menus has been ****ed UP
its very unresponsive and its feels "choppy" you can skip a few menu selections without intending to

Anyone else notice this?

Yeah, the whole firmware is laggy, have you got the latest?

I do agree, I really liked the 5.5g clickwheel, much more smoother to scroll with

i would love to get a 160gig classic ipod
but this firmware is just too annoying to bother.

they will, but they are taking their sweet time, i quite like, i get used to her bugs and we understand each other

i say go for it, its great, and intime things will get fixed, but for me its the 160gb i like!

they decreased it from 38.1mm to 38.0mm, so i doubt its the size you're noticing.

Austin, i believe the lockup issue some were experiencing was fixed in the last itunes update

in any event, i haven't heard of any hardware damage from a software lockup relating to itunes and the classic, so i'm not sure why the price of your computers matters.

Heh, yeah I'm pretty certain iTunes won't brick your "expensive computer" If it does, I'll give you $25 for it so it's not a complete loss.

All the scroll wheels up to the 4G were pure bliss to use. After that it went downhill. The Nano isn't too choppy, however.

I assume that you don't have an iPod 6G yet but tried it at a store/friend/...
Do you know which firmware version it was running? The ogininal firmware was very slow and made the click wheel very unresponsive. Then apple released the 1.0.1 update which made things a little better.
Now, on 1.0.2, my 6G scrolls perfect.
If you visit the store again, you can check the verion in the "about" menu.

yes i tried it at the store and it was very disappointing

Ill try it again ... maybe i can update the firmware at the ipod store hehe

Really? when i had the classic it was noticably more responsive than the 5g that i owned

Never noticed any difference with the size though
