Amp with the best bass?

Some of you have heard a lot of amps, which one do you find has the best bass?
I haven't heard a LOT of amps, but of what I've heard, I thought that the Total Airhead had the best (read: most pronounced) bass.

best bass amp

The best I have heard are the headroom max/ maxed out home and the gilmore amp. Both these amps have power, speed and control. I like the sr-225 with the maxed out home and the rs-1 with the gilmore.

With what headphones? That's an important detail methinks. Probably going to vary greatly phone to phone depending on synergy with a given amp. I doubt many people have tried the W1000 yet with a lot of different amps, so probably not much concrete evidence to go on for bass.

Some important stuff to add...

I'm already down for a Gilmore V2, this is just a curiosity post. I'm not even asking what would have the best bass with the W1000. I'm actually quite satisfied with my META42+W1000 for bass. I'm just curious what people like the best for bass, that's all.

I bet the Blockhead would be Number 1, it better be for the price.

radrd:
The bass extension only, is not necessarily an evidence of having in front of you a good amp, there are also a lot of other factors as detail, musicality, smoothness, balance, neutrality, dynamic, speed, etc...to be considered, that maybe one listener, prefer over the other, and help him decided which is best for this particular case, which headphones are you going to use, and what are you particulary worried about the bass extension? Why not considering the use of a good EQ then , even when for sure, most of the good amps will give you nice and tight bass, enough to drive most of the cans.

Sovkiller,

You are again reading too much into the original question. The poster just wanted to find out what amps produce good bass. In no way does he state anything that says good bass equals good amp. I mean come on, his post was only a short, simple sentence. Again, he's just concerned with the BASS and the BASS alone...nothing more, nothing less!

On the subject of the original question...
I haven't heard enough amps in order to make a worthy decision. But from what I understand, the higher end Headroom stuff handles bass very wonderfully (better than avergage)!

The headroom Blockhead has the best bass that I ever heard from any headphone amp.

Out of all those that I've heard (HP4, ZOTL, Reality, Melos, RA-1) my RKV just has such great bass that is totally controlled, tight, and just awesome for a tube amp.

Just for further clarification...

I'm not stupid. I realize the measure of a good amp is not how good the bass is. I WILL NOT be basing any future purchase solely on which amp is said to have the best bass. Also, I inentionally refrained from defining "best" in my post because I leave that up to you. This is totally subjective and only out posted of curiosity.

Thanks for the responses so far; quite diverse I see.

Sorry radrd, but if this is answering my previous post, I'm not trying to say that, a person who came here or to any other place to get information, before buying something, could not be consider as such, you would be, if you do not ask first, and sorry if you feel that this was my intention, I'm so sorry about that radrd.
But was curious for me, why your only concern in this case, is the bass, (even without mention any particular headphone), all these amps IMO had different performance with different cans, maybe one amp offers more bass with some headphones and less with others, and maybe another amp offers more bass with the ones that sounded more brighter with the first...all depends on the synergy and the match of the setup....

Bass with the HD-600s

Wheatfield HA-2 - The most detailed bass I have heard, but not the best control.

AudioValve RKV - Not the most detailed, but has good texture, depth, slam, and grip.

Headroom Max - With filter in bright position, and processor off; the best combination of speed, detail, and slam.

Sudgen Headmaster - tight, and detailed with little slam. Nice extension though.

I have to agree with KR on this one. The blockhead's bass is simply phenomenal. Extremely deep, accurate and black.

Sovkiller,

You still don't understand. I'll put it as simple a statement as possible so you can understand. The original posters question, by radrd, has ABSOLUTELY NOTHING to do with what YOU (and only you think he is asking about something other than a simple bass production question) might believe he is asking. He DOES NOT say nor has he ever said his only concern is bass.

"Some of you have heard a lot of amps, which one do you find has the best bass?"

Do you see it anywhere? I sure don't!!!

I hate to keep going with this, but do any others agree with me? Or am I going completely nuts?
