iPod Touch Sound Quality is quite bad. - Page 12

I haven't heard a ipod touch 3g, though I'll get a chance to listen to one later, but I think most people commenting on it thought it was ok. At least one person seemed to have a faulty one which sound bad and a replacement was much better. By ok I mean, while not up there with the best players it wasn't to far behind. Most people seem to have an issue how clinical and clean it sounds, compared to the warmer house sound of the Sony players. I seem to remember the X5 is more like the Sonys in that its warmer if not that accurate. Maybe I'm mistaken.

I'm talking about the (pre X series sonys) btw.

I've been using the touch3g for about a month now & here is what i feel:
- very clean output
- large soundstage & very wide channel seperation
- upper highs are just awesome, extended, clear & tons of detail
- bass although very tight lacks impact & extension but still it is quite attacking/speedy as opposed to the sony A726 lazy bass.
- mids are quite thin, upper highs somewhat harsh & this is why final output seems as if listening to only surface of the music......i mean there is almost no 'z' dimension to the music, although using some darker phones mids come out better.
These impressions are based on comparison with sony a726 & clip v2.
Do you guys feel if there is any audible diff. btw sq of touch 2g & 3g. Is there any way to downgrade 3g to 2g & does the touch not pair with any mobile phone using bluetooth.........i didnt have any success so far.

I can't really notice that much of a difference between my 5.5g video and my 1g touch, though this may be because I've had to get it replaced so many times that I've gotten newer parts in the refurbished models.

In terms of music, I would prefer an Ipod Nano or Classic. I think it was really just made for that, listening to music. Itouch or Iphones, on the other hand, are good in terms of memory and application. But you cannot go wrong to a good headphone or IEM.

Too lazy to read this: what's the conclusion? do 1g touchs suck(compared to other gens/models)? cause I have one but I want to wait till 4th gen for a new one XD

Line out quality is probably near best on the market.

Didn't really regret buying it.. Funtionsbare greate but sound quality sucks... Gonna get a new pmp for sound and my iPod for games and videos..

I had an iPod classic and sold it because I hated the sound quality (esp. the bass distortion) and got a Zune80 instead. Was thinking about getting a 64gb iTouch 3rdGen or ZuneHD, can anyone shed some light on how they compare?

that's what I'm wondering. I have a headroom portable amp so i'll be using it, wondering if transitioning from my iPod classic to a touch 3G would improve sound quality when using line-out to outboard amp??

I just do not listen to music much on it. Mostly podcasts. Sound is ok for that. Get some forgiving earbuds like my Senn MX470 and you will be ok. it is not an SQ monster but it is not bad either. Pretty neutral.

Now that its been about 5 years since then, the iPod touch sound quality is better since it has a speaker.

 

The speaker on the touch sux,...and has nothing to do with it having good OR bad sound quality.

Even though my iPod Touch 4G isn't the best sounding DAP that I own it still sounds much better than my Cowon D2. The D2 is probably the worst sounding DAP (alongside the Creative Zen Xi-Fi2) that I own. Anyway, I still think the best sounding iPod Touch was the iPod Touch 2G.
