Is it in Gort's costume? I don't know. I think I may remember reading on the special edition DVD about production errors but I am not sure. There is really many errors in the movie. I really don't notice any errors though. The music though has to be the best Sci-Fi music of all time. Just the mood and pace. The sounds they used as well as the way it goes with the film! Magic!

Toss in your disc and watch the footage of when the earth actually stands still and there is no electricity.  Then get back to me.  very_evil_smiley.gif

all right. Its a really blatant mistake.   During the period when the earth is standing sill because all electrical power has been neutralized we see various shots of the world where is it without electricity.  Shots from all over the world.  Then we cut to shots in time square and in of them we see a theater with its marquee lights flashing.  Electricity.  Has to be the biggest mistake of the movie.

In the link I shared, that is mistake #17 out of 24 listed.

I watched the Spanish film, The Last Circus, last night.  I'm a bit ambivalent about rating it.  Interesting in some ways, but certainly not great I guess 6/10 for me.  It did have some great visuals, and there was some multi-layered metaphors going on that juxtaposed the political strife of the Spanish Civil War with a bizarre courtship and rivalry in a love triangle...all coming to a climax with machine gun toting disfigured clowns and a beautiful woman on a giant stone crucifix.  I was prepared for something I might want to turn off, but ended up watching it all the way through... so there is something there, and on some levels it is quite thought provoking and certainly visually compelling.  I don't know if your average viewer might share a view of what I found interesting in it.  Violence lust and clowns with guns.....

Well,       I will have to look for that one! But if you do a side by side with most Sci/Fi at the time it really comes in as a fairly expensive movie for the day. It may have been the most expensive Sci/Fi move made to that point? It was 1.5 million I think, to make. Really what else was there? The public was not really in a movie watching mind-set for Sci/Fi like you have now. I think it was a big risk for both the studio and producer, if I remember my history right?

It also has a bunch of statements about mankind that many folks get into even now days. I just like the photography in it as well as the music.

@WarriorAnt

Are you current with any Val Lewton movies. He made the first Cat People as well as a couple more. I love those B/W older movies. I had a Val Lewton laser disk collection once that had them all in really good quality. I guess there is a Val Lewton DVD box set out there, now.

Black and White films are such a fun thing to watch if you have been watching a month of color movies. King Kong, Dracula, Frankenstein, Bride Of Frankenstein! I love those!

What about the Mummy in black and white with Boris Karloff!

Yeah Love those B&W films.

One of my favorite B&W's although not a Sci Fi or horror flick is "Seven Days In May".  I did some work on an interview with  Frankenheimer back in 1999.   I don't usually listen to the Directors track on films but I would recommend listening to his for Seven Days if you've already seen it once.  Excellent insight into how the movie was made and why he couldn't make a movie like that today.   another really excellent  dialogue track for a movie is the one for Dr. Strangelove.  That one is EXCELLENT!   Just wild how the movie was made and what inertia helped create it as it was being filmed.

Agreed re TDTESS, this discussion has inspired me to change my avatar lol (at least for now). I wish they would have made an old b&w version of Stranger in a Strange Land (or any film version), that's obviously what inspired my handle here. One of the most famous sci-fi novels of all time, besides "Grok" it introduced us to the terms, "Thou art God", and "Never Thirst", and to the very concept of the waterbed.
