Southland Tales - 7/10

Quirky sci-fi weirdo flick, somewhat reminiscent of Donnie Darko (I believe written by the same guy, also). Like Donnie, the ending is pretty confusing. Needs another viewing or two to fully appreciate I believe. Might be rated higher once I figure out exactly what happened at the end, but I think I have the jist of it.

No Country for Old Men. 9/10 Watched it twice in a row. Almost as good as a Kubrick movie, and there is no higher praise than that for me.

Interview 5/10

Steve Buscemi's coming out party as writer, director, actor.

"Who doesn't like Steve", I says to my self at the video store upon seeing the box.

Stunningly bad movie. Wow, did he overextend himself.

I would skip this and see the older Deathtrap instead.

I was lucky enough to see a pre-release of My Blueberry Nights, Wong Kar-Wai's first English language film. A road trip with Norah Jones in her debut role. Also starring Jude Law and Natalie Portman. It's none of their fault. As a WKW fan, the technics are there, but the soul is not. You really have to break it down into pieces to find anything successful. I actually think the mediocre reviews so far are a bit softballed. Even the slo-mo and soundtrack so well done in Chungking Express, In the Mood for Love and 2046, seem haphazard here. Don't even get me started on the voice over or story weighting. Overall a very disappointing disaster.

Just watch the crash:

Remake of a Dutch film by the same name: Buscemi's not the writer.

Interesting. Buscemi wrote the screenplay and Theodor Holman wrote the original (and wrote the original original).

Was the original as bad?

Sorry for so many originals in one post.

Sorry, I haven't seen either.

Hoodwinked: 4/10. Awful animation IMO, especially when compared to Dreamworks/Pixar. A few funny moments, but not nearly enough. Nice interpretation of the Little Red Riding Hood story though.

Cleaner: 7/10. Good acting by Samuel L Jackson in this nice movie about a crime scene cleaner who finds himself in a tight spot.

Shutter (thai) 7/10

Pretty cliche, but made me jump a few times. Ending was incredibly stupid.
