I prefer redemption to revenge in movies and in life these days.

Tropic Thunder is the first movie that comes to mind when I think of being offended by terribleness and walking out of the theater.  Except I was there with my sister and family friends so I had to sit there cringing.  Absolutely the worst kind of humor.  Stupid, mindless, ignorant, shallow and offensive.  When I left the theater I remember feeling like I had lost something that I would never get back.

I totally get that. I'm more drawn than you to the aspects of life that are entirely foreign to me, but I do have some tabboos that will cause me to walk away. Abuse of children and dogs is pretty high up on my list. Dogs especially for some reason - I have zero tolerance in movies or in real life. Gratuitous violence also can push my buttons, but it will depend largely on context. The original Dragon Tattoo did not bug me that way. I liked the first in the trilogy, but the other two were a yawn. Haven't seen the new one and probably won't bother. The book is quite good.

I also abhor the abuse of children and dogs but am lucky in that I am able to distinguish and seperate between film and real life.

Lol, I would hope that all of us are "lucky" in that way...blink.gif

You're being kind to it.

Haven't seen the film adaptations but figured the scene/s that would've turned you off. The book wasn't a bad read. Not sure how it'd translate to the screen though. 007 wannabe Craig is not how I pictured the protagonist though. Stupid Hollywood.

I'll have to say the revenge scene bought out a sadistic side in this viewer, because I definitely smiled and quite possibly chuckled as well. That might not be gratuitous in the sense of "The Passion Of The Christ", but then what is it besides manipulative?

Oddly satisfying, it gives us a sense of completion like coming back to middle C in music except of course it's more psychologically perverted.

If you ever watch them watch the Craig version first as it's the weaker of the 2, IMO.

Still sticking by what I said earlier about Craig. Dead face. Has the emotional range of a rock.

Movies I've walked out from the theatre that come to mind:

Breaking the Waves (Von Trier)

Safe (Todd Haynes)

Buffalo Bill and the Wild Indians (Altman)

Baxter (about a dog)

Man Bites Dog (not about dogs)

The movies I've shut down on DVD are too numerous to recall.

There are other films from Von Trier, Altman, and Haynes that I like so go figure.

I haven't been to the movie theater since 2005.

The Go Getter - 8/10 - When i say "This movie needs more Zoey!!" It never happens, but this time it did! Can never go wrong with a wacky Indie movie and it looks like i found another winner on Netflix.

The Woman in Black - Hmm..........8/10.
