12 years a slave
5/10. Nothing surprising, very superficial and a lot of bad casting. I suppose the typical Oscar movie.
Two modern history tragedies that Hollywood milks over and over again...The Holocaust and African slavery. I've seen some good ones but seen even more mediocre ones. Just gotta be careful with criticising such movies in todays political environment.
Interesting observation....I ALWAYS call friends and acquantices from Africa n-----s....its great...because its cool, they think it's awesome to be called one. Never ever do the same with an American...the last time I tried....the silence was deafening.
I adore the black US community....they have turned a derogatory word cool and banned people from using the new cool...thus creating a new mystique for being black, so everyone always wants a piece of the forbidden fruit. Its OK....I'm from Australia and had nothing to do with African slavery, we're too busy crushing the self esteem of 'Abos' as everyone here refers to for Aboriginals, and from what I can gather it is indeed a derogatory term and far from cool.
