Woody Allen's Midnight in Paris: 8/10 - Quite a charming movie, really enjoyed it. Owen Wilson is excellent as the lead.

While I'm being concerned that all big budget Russian films this year are a propaganda ( "Legend #17", currently running "Gagarin. The First in Space") I noticed on RottenTomatoes one movie which is going to run in the US tomorrow - "In the Fog" ( 2012, about World War II). The movies of director Sergei Loznitsa ( former Belorussian who lives in Germany) have reputation of anti-Russian and anti-Soviet. That is why his new movie didn't get wide release in Russia.

The previous Loznitsa movie "My Joy" ( 2010) made noise in Russia as it showed the country in an extremely ugly light. A horror which is not fiction but reality.

Currently running movie "Gagarin. First in Space", a patriotic super-mega blockbuster.

8.9/10

Always been a fan of Zack Snyder's style of film making, and it almost seems as if this was the movie he was always meant to make. The battle between Zod and Superman in Metropolis was ****ing insane. The slower and quieter moments were also very nicely done, even made my wife cry at one point. The Krypton stuff at the beginning was simply stunning, Michael Shannon was incredible and scary. Lois Lane was miscast, though. No chemistry at all between her and Henry Cavill. It's not a perfect movie, but a damn good comic book movie. MUCH more entertaining than Dark Knight Rises, IMO.

If MoS sets the tone for future DC comics movies, they are definitely on the right track.

9/10 for me....loved it!

For those who say Lois was miscast, at least it wasn't Kate Bosworth again...nothing could have been that bad.

Akira -7/10

Sarah's Key -8/10

Wreck it Ralph -8.5/10

V for Vendetta -9/10

The Lorax -8.5/10

Jean De Florrete/ Manon des Sources - 8/10

Life of Pi -8.5/10

Schindler's List -8.5/10

I kid you not when I say that I saw these in the last month in classes as the year is over.

Man of Steel. 7/10

I went in hoping to see something new. I'll admit I was a bit tired when I walked in, but totally fatigued when I walked out.

Some major issues:

-- Too long. Could've made it a bit shorter.

-- Uneven pacing. The first half is rather slow.

-- The next half is well, explosion after explosion after explosion. Everything. Destroy on sight. It was the same experience I had in Transformers.

-- Script. Not as deep as the movie was trying to be. Just felt like the dialogs weren't thought through. And some were bad. Take for instance, Zodd saying to Superman, "Only one of us will get out of this alive, either you or me"

** Facepalm ** . Like I don't know.

The fanboy in me really liked the upscale feel of the movie, but I still think they could've done better had they focused less on needlessly blowing stuff up.

Saw it yesterday.  I feel exactly the way you do, but you said if better than I could.

Psshh! 9.5/10 for me!

I felt like the story was executed perfectly. It felt like a highly condensed/realistic Smallville. The guy's an alien that can break Mach 3 with ease...he isn't going to have the same story and struggles like we saw in Dark Knight.

As a matter of fact, I think the story may have been better than TDKR. Here you have the most powerful being on this side of the universe, yet he manages to retain the human element that makes him so compassionate.

The last scene with Zod was fantastic, IMO. The entire movie reminded me of Dragon Ball / DB-Z. The fights were orgasmic to watch, and the last scene reminded me of this:

I'd take off three points solely on the guy they cast looks way too unpleasant to be Superman. I haven't seen it.

Ha. He actually fits the role very well. Unpleasant is the last word I'd use to describe him. Don't take your gf to see it though, if you don't want to hear her swoon over him.

I thought the same thing, especially the final showdown. I'm pretty sure Zod and Supes did more damage in the final showdown than the whole of The Avengers third act.

I say let Zach Snyder reboot a live-action DBZ movie next!

I made that mistake when I said "Yea sure, let's watch Crazy Stupid Love."

Maybe it's just the posters... The art direction on those posters is fantastic though.

Yes, I made that dumb mistake too.

That movie single handedly motivated me to really weight train. I even thought of using a pic of a shirtless Gosling as motivation. I don't think it would have done my rep any favors though.

Oh,

Crazy Stupid Love: 7.9/10

Haha. She doesn't like Ryan Gosling going into the movie. As soon as its over, she turns to me and goes "Babe, you should start working out again." Not that I mind but... Stupid Ryan Gosling. Then again, I'm looking better than I have in a while so... Lose win?

I'd rate it right around there too.
