Rate The Last Movie You Watched - Page 837

If by recent you mean within the last 10 years, I'm mostly drawing blanks. The only 'space' anime I've watched that I really really liked was Cowboy Bebop, so I'm afraid I can't be of much help there. As for sci-fi, MorbidToaster mentioned the Girl Who Leapt Through Time (movie), which was a fine sci-fi time-travel movie I thought. The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya (series) has some good sci-fi/time-travel elements as well. The new versions of Neon Genesis Evangelion might be worth your time, if you like mecha action. Paprika (film) is a real sci-fi head trip, and might be just about the most visually impressive anime I've seen. There's always that Daft Punk anime film, Interstella 5555. And I guess if you don't mind a healthy-dose of raunchiness there's Dead Leaves. Still, all of those are 'lighter' sci-fi than Bebop, with most of them probably more fantasy than they are science-fiction.

Since we're on the topic of anime, can anyone suggest a really good recent sci-fi and/or space travel anime? Something in the vein of Cowboy Beebop or Outlaw Star?

Girl Who Leapt is less Sci-fi and more a modern day 'careful what you wish for' film.

Just rewatch Bebop. It's hands down the best Space anime, had a fantastic movie tie in, great soundtrack, and was just a fantastic anime. One of the few series I've never gotten sick of.

EVA is obviously a good choice but you've probably seen it...Why not give TTGL a shot? Hilarious, good OST, and there's some pretty awesome space battles.

Agreed. I thought it was overall a superior movie compared to the original, and I'm not much of a Ferrell fan.

Silent Hill : Revelation - 3/10

A very weak plot blanketed by special effect.

Eden of the East: Paradise Lost (2010)

7/10

A fine, if preachy and somewhat anticlimactic, ending to this series.

Flight of the Phoenix (1965 version) - 8/10

Starring Richard Attenborough, James Stewart, George Kennedy and Ernest Borgnine.

Much better than the remake. Started out pretty bad, but got better and better. I can't say it's the most entertaining movie ever, but I really liked the acting in this one. Of course it's overacting somewhat, but that's OK.

Hardy Kruger was especially good. I was really impressed with his film "The One That Got Away" from 1957. I need to buy that!

It's about a German POW during WWII who escaped in Canada and somehow made his way back to Germany! True story too.

Mrs. Miniver - 10/10

Must see.

Thanks for the anime suggestions. I do need to check out Paprika sometime since I've heard from several people that it's visually stunning. And yeah I'll probably end up watching all of Cowboy Bebop and Outlaw Star again. I remembered another mini series that I liked alot was FLCL (Fooly Cooly).

Have been in a slump lately due to my work schedule, but saw this one the other night and was completely blown away by it. I'm always game for a good cop movie, but this one was raw, gritty, and involving. I found myself really engaged with the main characters and the ride really took a toll on me emotionally. Awesome flick...

End of Watch - 9.4/10

FLCL might just be my favorite anime series of all time. ^^ I have a pretty intense love/hate relationship with both Neon Genesis Evangelion and Serial Experiments Lain that might cause me to rank those two a bit higher, but for pure enjoyment, FLCL is just unstoppable. I think I watch it half a dozen times every year, and it never gets old.

"Taken 2" [7.9/10]: I know that this movie got bad reviews but I liked it. It wasn't great, but Liam Neesom plays the role well. It had me on the edge of my seat a couple of times.
