Primers is probably the best time travel movie if you want something that thinks through the implications and not just use the device. And I write this as someone who loved Looper and 12 Monkeys.

I loved both of them.

But, the time travel method described in Primer is different from the rest, its not like 'zap' and you're in the past...the present self essentially loops back. Very interesting, and maybe the most convincing way to explain time travel, and also the most complex.

If the past-double enters the machine again, there's another loop, and since the machine is modular, you can take the machine further back in time...its seriously mind boggling stuff.

Based on your description, I don't know how you can only give it 6/10.  Your summary sentence alone is a 9/10 in my book.

Don't get me wrong, it was very entertaining but believe it or not, there are better ninjexploitation films out there. Check out this one if you can find it...it's a real treat...

Mafia Vs Ninja (1985)  9.5/10

Lincoln

My rating is a ten out of 10. With a film made with such great artistry, I can safely consider this one of Spielberg's best in a long while.smile.gif

Watched Alien last night 10/10

Hadn't seen it in years. The thing I find truly remarkable is the imagination and work and detail that was put into the visual presentation of the movie. The sets and props direction and production is just amazing for the time period. No corner was cut, every detail of every set used was well thought out and built. You take set work on a movie well made like that for granted because you just get so immersed in it.

Watching Davinci Code right now. 9/10

Never read the book but I thought it was well done. I'd like to hear peoples views who read the book if it strayed far from the story or if it stayed pretty on line.

I didn't care for the movie at all, but it was considerably better than the book. I made it about 1/4th of the way through that before I had to stop, out of fear for my continued well-being. The movie had the advantage of being constructed by people who mostly knew what they were doing--unlike the author of the novel, Dan Brown. I'm not sure that I've encountered a 'serious' (insofar as he seems to take his writing seriously) author more unpleasant to read than him in recent years.

"Life of Pi" in 3D.
Breathtaking, both in visuals and in narration. I don't know what I would rate it, but I know I'd recommend it.

edit: Agreed. "Angels and Demons" (also by Dan Brown) was not an enjoyable read. I never finished because of similar reasons.

^ Agreed with the Life of Pi in 3D impression, a pretty decent storyline and the movie is quite long. Definitely go see it in 3D.

The Longest Day - 7.5/10

The fake Hollywood acting of the soldiers kind of took away from it a bit. Seems fairly accurate other than this. Hated Robert Mitchum's character in this.

I've seen this 3 times now. I guess if you want an accurate portrayal of what war is really like, this isn't the one to watch.

Dumb and Dumber - 8/10

I've seen this at least a few dozen times starting back when I was in high school (i'm now 31!!). This is still funny but the uncut version almost ruins it.

I still have stains on the pants I work to the theater when I saw Dumb and Dumber for the first time...

3D is the *only* version worth watching. Otherwise you might find the story a bit simple, boring even.

while on a job last night (sometimes my line of work pays!)

Shame some of the "blardy ing land" dialog is a bit naff ("ze germans") but 95% of the delivered lines are PERFECT.

7/10
