Thanx for the warning. I passed on that one was afraid of that.
+1!
My actual take on denzel..... I loved him back in the day in pelican brief. Great film. But then in every movie he has ever done to me he is the same character from pelican brief doing a different movie.
In other words he is one of those type-cast actors. His acting style reflects his real life mannerisms and thats about as deep as he goes. There are a couple exceptions at times but not many.
Not to say i think he cant act. There are lots of "type-cast" actors out there. Im just bored of his acting "type".
He is the main reason i passed on seeing this one last week.
Exactly. I bet we could pick five scenes from five different movies and we wouldn't be able to really tell which character his was playing in each clip. Like you said, it's not that he's a bad actor, he just doesn't have any range....or at least far less range than people give him credit for. Denzel, Bruce Willis, Benny Affleck, guys like this make films I tend to enjoy for the most part, but there are actors out there (Gary Oldman, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sean Penn, aforementioned Don Cheadle, etc, etc) who can truly immerse themselves in a role and transform into someone else. I'm glad we have both types of actors, but I tend to have a LOT more respect for those who can truly become the role.

That movie was hilarious.
