+1!
My actual take on denzel..... I loved him back in the day in pelican brief. Great film. But then in every movie he has ever done to me he is the same character from pelican brief doing a different movie.
In other words he is one of those type-cast actors. His acting style reflects his real life mannerisms and thats about as deep as he goes. There are a couple exceptions at times but not many.
Not to say i think he cant act. There are lots of "type-cast" actors out there. Im just bored of his acting "type".
He is the main reason i passed on seeing this one last week.

Exactly. I bet we could pick five scenes from five different movies and we wouldn't be able to really tell which character his was playing in each clip. Like you said, it's not that he's a bad actor, he just doesn't have any range....or at least far less range than people give him credit for. Denzel, Bruce Willis, Benny Affleck, guys like this make films I tend to enjoy for the most part, but there are actors out there (Gary Oldman, Phillip Seymour Hoffman, Sean Penn, aforementioned Don Cheadle, etc, etc) who can truly immerse themselves in a role and transform into someone else. I'm glad we have both types of actors, but I tend to have a LOT more respect for those who can truly become the role.

Your face has no substance!! tongue.gif That movie was hilarious.

By the way, I just watched Looper. It was pretty good, but a little slow paced for a movie that includes time travel and a child with freakish powers.

Also, The Dark Knight Rises is still the best I've seen in 5 years.

Agreed on both counts (dark night and also thought looper was a decently entertaining watch).

Band of Brothers - various ratings, but overall maybe an 8.5/10

I've now watched this series twice. All 10 hours! The best episode was "Bastogne" where they were in the snowy forest in foxholes. Talk about a total nightmare to have to live through that.

"The Breaking Point" is the one that really got under my skin. Half of it due to all the gore etc. I think this is the one.

All this is really tame compared to "The Pacific" series. That one is tough to take all in one go.

Get Smart - 10/10

Ok, not really, but this is one of the funniest movies ever made to me. Depending on my mood it can often be even funnier than it usually is. I laugh at loud more than I should. Steven Carrell is perfect in this movie. So many funny lines in this one. More than any other movie. Story is just so-so, but better than Skyfall! It also has Muffins of Mass Destruction! I've seen this at least 20 times. Only a couple jokes don't work..I've probably rated this already, but I love it!

The Great Escape - 10/10

Disliked this the first time. Now it's a favorite and I watch it every week. No joke. I love how this movie doesn't mind taking it's time to tell it's story. Unfortunately they sugar-coat how some of the prisoners were treated. Possibly. One guy was even complaining that drinking his tea without milk was so uncivilized! Yet he was a POW treated well while people were in death camps and fighting in WWII. Maybe it's just accurate to the book.

Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)

BTW you often do wish it had a Hollywood ending

Them! - 8/10

Old movie about giant ants invading the USA. Pretty entertaining and way better than I expected. I love how they take everything so completely serious!

The Fugitive - 10/10

One of my favorite movies. Perfect cast. Free with Amazon Prime!

I loved both Band of Brothers and The Pacific. I grew up around grandparents and great uncles who proudly served in WWII....some of whom saw quite a bit of action. These series allowed me to get a better feel for what it was like for them. I was pretty riveted by both.

Hard Candy:  9/10

Very intense, very different.

Prometheus, 9/10

Bad robot! Good robot! It's all about the damn robot!

I thought it held up well on it's own, and fit into the Alien mythology as it should have nicely.

Please don't take this personally but I can't help but pipe in. I would give it a 2/10....

Who is the bad guy? -- The little micro germs that kill you? Or the ones that turn your into a zombie? Or the little snake thingy's? Or is it the big alien guy? Or is it the octopus that is spawned from having intercourse with a guy infested with micro germies? Or the baby original alien that looks more fake than the original effects from the movie Alien? I know the answer I am just saying the plot was NOT very focused.

I thought it was especially intriguing that a woman can perform surgery on herself leaving a 20 inch incision across her belly then run and jump and climb within the hour...... I mean after having just had my appendix taken out with a 2 inch incision that was hard to watch....

Sorry to rant but I was vastly disappointed being a huge fan of the original couple alien movies.

X3, extremely funny movie, Carell was the perfect choice for Maxwell Smart. Actually the casting was great all the way around!

I watched Get Smart when I was really tired after working a 14 hr shift in the hospital...I guess I need to watch it again! I'm a huge Carrell fan.

This isn't really a movie, but I had to share what I think of the TV show How I Met Your Mother.

This is quite literally the funniest series I've watched. A friend introduced me to it, and my eyes have been glued to it ever since.

I thought I'd never find a show that would trump Arrested Development, but here it is.

10/10

I'm not really a huge fan of his, but I used to watch the Don Adams TV series and Carell really nailed it! I do enjoy his deadpan humor in general.

Anne Hathaway was great as well but she's no Barbara Feldon tongue_smile.gif

For me the bad guy was all of the things you mentioned, except especially the alien guy who was one of the original Engineers; of the Alien WMD and of us. The rest were different manifestations of that Alien WMD super-species, created by the Engineers to eliminate all other competitive/dominant life forms.

The surgery machine was cool, it was the future after all:

Peter Weyland: "100,000 BC: stone tools. 4,000 BC: the wheel. 900 AD: gunpowder - bit of a game changer, that one. 19th century: eureka, the light bulb! 20th century: the automobile, television, nuclear weapons, spacecrafts, Internet. 21st century: biotech, nanotech, fusion and fission and M theory - and THAT, was just the first decade!"

But for me this was the quote that made the movie:

"David (to Charlie): How far would you go to get your answers?" very_evil_smiley.gif

edit: Great analysis of that scene here:
