Hello Everyone,
Im considering buy an amp... but im a bit hesitant because of the price's
except i see that the Cmoy amps (built by other users?) are very reasonably priced (i can get one for $45 bucks)

how are these cmoy amps? are they worth he $$?

I got mine for $45 and it has a noticeable improvement with my K601s, especially after a little burn-in. Only downside is that the only power source is a 9 volt battery, so that can add up (unless you already have rechargeable batteries w/charger).

But sound quality wise - it's definitely worth it.

where are people selling these? i am interested in getting an amp to go with my phones that are in transit.

They are sold on e-bay

There is the caffeine amp and the penguin amp

There is the bass boost CMoy by blackinches(alias here), 3three3three I think is his alias on ebay

May be several others. Generally you can tell they are CMoy because they are in some kind of candy tin.

I think it is desirable to avoid the toggle switch on the tin amps because it sticks out the side, to have a volume control, and finally a DC jack so you can run it from a wall transformer (Jameco is a source I have used). I don't know if any of them have built in battery chargers.

At least 2 men on this site sell printed circuit boards or kits. Joshadot and Zigis come to mind.

OR, you could build it yourself a la tangentsoft.

Have fun!

I'm not sure there is a best one.
Mine is homemade and I have never heard any of these amps listed above.
Use the search function and you can get opinions on the various versions.
Then make your choice on less than perfect data.

A cmoy - even a DIY one - may offer some benefit. It largely dependson your source and your headphones. Many report very little benefit when using the standard headphone out from their ipod with standard 'bud' headphones.

But, if you use a Line-Out Dock (LOD) from the iPod the SQ can noticably improve.

There are a big range of CMoys available on eBay. The ones I have heard good things about are from sellers zigisg (headfi member), biosciencegeek, juice2214.

I personally prefer the ones with a volume pot. There is no other way to control the volume if you use a LOD. I have never felt that any of the CMoys I have used have really lacked bass - but I'm not a basshead - so I never really considered a bass boost.

Search on CMOY here and you'll find a stack of discussions on this topic.

If you rockbox your player (may or may not be possible) you "can" control volume with LOD.
