I've been involved in this hobby for a few years now and it's taken me a while to find some headphones that I really like. For a while I was buying and trading different cans to try and find my "signature" sound.
It took a while but I've settled on a small but very enjoyable group of three headphones that I use most often in 4 different categories:
Stax Lambda Pros - Electrostatic
Grado HF-1 - Open Dynamic
Ultrasone Proline 750 - Closed Dynamic
Westone UM2 - IEM for portable use
They all hav their uses but my favorite is the Lambda Pro and my least favorite is the UM2, although I prefer them to other IEMs I've tried for pure comfort (the sound is nothing to sneeze at either).
However, I've realized that the dynamic headphones I've settled on are all low impedence. Is there any reason why I should try to find a high impedence headphone I like? Am I missing something?
Next weekend is the NYC Head-Fi meet so I think I'm going to try and test out some high impedence cans but does anyone have any recommendations?
My musical taste is all over the place and most of my equipment is listed in my sig. Budget isn't really an issue as I can always sell some of my existing equipment for the right cans.
