$200 bucks to spend...

Well I'm looking to spend around 200 or less on some headphones. I'll be using them for gaming, listening to movies mostly. What do you guys suggest? I've researched a bit on here and there are so many to pick from... I was leaning towards the ATH-AD700 for about 100$, but am not sold yet. People said there was problems with bass. Are HD595s any better or anything others that would be better? Thanks for helping a noob out.

Try any of the Grados that fit your price range. I find them to be really very good for movies and gaming. The clarity and bass is very good. Dialogue in movies are excellent while the bass keeps movies sound full (explosions sound real etc).

I would imagine gaming would be the same. I don't do a lot of gaming though.

I personally have compared them with the Beyers DT880 and the Senns HD580 for movies and my Grado SR60 beats both those cans. Now, I will not use the SR60 for anything else..but for movies, they are the best.

Have fun!

Check out: http://www.headphone.com/guide/by-manufacturer/grado/
and if possible, get second hand Grados from the For Sale forum.

Oh and Grado's for gaming???? Both AD700 and HD595 would probably be better for gaming, soundstage is apparently better, which is a plus if you value being able to hear your enemies around you (though I wish developers would improve positional sound algorithms, instead of just making sound in one ear proportionately lower in order to make it seem like the sound is coming from the other direction, you don't need 5.1 for surround sound.)

I've not heard the AD700, but I own (and am thrilled with) the AD900, which is supposedly a substantial step up. Amazon/Musician's Friend has the AD900 for $229. They're a little over your stated price range, but this is head-fi after all.

thanks for the advice guys I found a pair of ad900 at audiocubes.com for 191 shipped. I'll probably go with that.

i dont think ive ever heard a grado recommended for movie and gaming... narrow soundstage and lacking in the rumbling bass department... not including how it leaks sound in and out.

the general headphones recommended are: dt770pro-80 or the a900...

i for one would suggest the ~$100 shipped A500 from audiocubes... closed, black, and supposedly more bass than its bigger brothers

That would be the price for A900 and not the AD900...

Yeah, audiocubes price for the AD900 is $219. I suggested the Amazon thing because they have a 30 day return policy.

I just got the ATH- A900LTD last night and all I can say is I know the A900LTD is way over your price range but I had to give ATH a plug

x2 Grados are definitely no good for gaming/movies. I actually want to try out the Beyers myself for this type of use. However, I have to say I love my HD580's for this exact purpose. If you buy them brand new from ebay they're well within your price range and if you buy them used here, they're way under budget while still performing at least as well if not better than anything else recommended. You could buy used and get a little portable amp to start you out
