new little dot MKV

Thread Starter
Just was browsing the little dot forum and I see they have launched a new amp - LDMKV.

Its a SS offering and reminds me somewhat of the original master.

has anyone heard it?!?!

any picture or more information??

The thread is here: http://www.little-tube.com/forum/for...osts=1&start=1

Lots of pics, double mono design, and "it's makes people experience a kind of "clear skies without a single cloud" profound sense." Which is nice.

Little Dot move to Solid-state amp? interesting...

"it's makes people experience a kind of "clear skies without a single cloud" profound sense."

hmm...

I dont see any indication of price. Any idea how much this is gonna cost?

Looks pretty nice. Wonder how it sounds?

Looks like a nice little SS amp.

Parts choice seems very good:
Vishay Dale Resistors, Alps RK27, Wima film caps, OMRON relays.

Dual Mono design, "Operational Amplifier + transistor expanding flow" which probably means an OPAMP on the input stage with a discrete output stage.

Waiting for reviews...

look very interesting

but the appearance does not really appeal to me

is the same old little dot without the tubes

Guess need to wait for reviews and price

Curious... why go through the troubles of making a "dual-mono" circuit, but "converge" the channels with single ended input/outputs?

Wouldn't a balanced configuration make more sense and capitalize further on the circuit design?
Standby switch... on a SS amp?

Looks nice though IMHO.

If it doesn't have tubes in it I'm not interested in it.

Unless they can claim some signature sound or other unique capabilities, it is just another brick-like SS amp floating around in a sea of other amps practically indistinguishable from one another. It doesn't even look different from the other dots around.

Why would they want to make it look any different than the other Little Dots? They're building a brand, and image goes a long way towards helping that.

I think price will the be over-riding factor. It does sound like its similar in design (at least in basics) as the Original Master, which has been discontinued (a replacement is supposed to be in the works though). If it competes on the same level as the OM at the same $200 price point, then the Little Dot name should be enough to propel it into FOTM. The one thing the OM lacked was any real publicity, as it seems the few people who did hear it thought it was a ~$500 amp (and sounded good even then). At the same time I wonder if price might leave people jaded (which I think also affected the OM). Who knows, but I don't see any reason to complain about another option, especially since no one knows how it sounds, and it is being made by a popular (and getting better with each new amp it seems) company.

I would like to see a Little Dot comparison thread, kinda like Skylab did with the Meier amps. I know there's a few people who would be interested in a real comparison between the MKIII and MKIV against the Darkvoice 336i. And certainly the MKI would be a nice addition to the portable amp threads.

100mw at 300^ per ch., isnt too powerful. I cant see it driving fullsized headphones well, unless i misinterpreted something.

I think my little C&C Box+ on high mode has 250mw per ch.

I guess we will have to see.

Yes, you did misinterpreted. If the current efficiency isn't limited (shouldn't be as there are transistors on the outputs), you can get 935mW per channel on 32 ohm headphones. On the other hand, Beyerdynamics are capable of going as high as 100mW per channel, so they can get more than that because of 250 ohms instead of 300.
Regarding symmetrization: it won't be that easy to make this amp symmetric. First of all, almost for sure there is a symmetrical power supply, so you have one commond ground, and dual mono means each channel having its own amplification circuit - a single op-amp + discrete buffer supposedly.

bleh and all of the sudden i thought, "whoa LD is going to provide affordable balance solution for everyone"

Seriously how come not going balanced for everything. Sounds to me it's quite a waste to use two completely seperate PSUs.
