Anyone have a write up on how to recable them?

what materials would I need?

Which wire/connector/ysplitter would you guys recommend?

How do I take them apart? whats the chance of damaging them lol?

anyone?

I'd like to have one 4 conductor cable wrapped in techflex/nylon and heatshrunk on both sides going to a y-splitter.. then i'd like to do the braiding ive seen on here to split it to both speakers.

Thanks for any help guys

did you try searching? this has probably only been asked like 657687 times. I'd use the search terms "grado recable" and search the DIY section

what size heat shrink could i use ?
I have 1/2" 3:1 i could use to do the main wire.. but it probably won't get small enough to do the 2 inner wires.. what size is good for that? 3/16? 3/8?

are u thinking of using heat shrink to cover the whole wire?
techflex is better as heat shrink isnt flexible.

no not for the whole cable, just for the beggining and end...

I'm hoping to recable my HF-1 soon (balanced) and I've run into a similar problem. So far, the other posters have pointed you in the right direction. It's a shame the pics are gone from the how to thread. My advice is this: search extensively and stitch together the how-to from the results; the info is out there. Also try your searches in the main headphone forum as some people have posted their mods there. If you haven't already, check out the how to make an interconnect thread. Finally, I would suggest ditching the techflex and either going with a softer sleeve or none at all to avoid microphonics.

I'm not even sure I used "microphonic" correctly, so here is what I mean:

Techflex is a somewhat course material and can be a bit stiff and inflexible. So when a cable covered in techflex rubs against itself, that action produces a sound that sometimes can be transmitted into the earcups of your phones, which in my experience manifests itself as sort of a "rumbling" sound.
