After waiting all weekend for a small piece of titanium with small pads attached (the Hal-o) to place on a tube to arrive. I checked the mail box 4 times before 12:00 noon on Saturday so I'm pretty sure I qualify.
Everyone who cares checks their mailbox four times in the morning. It's when you know that the mailman doesn't come until 3 p.m. that you know you are in trouble

However, after going through the ALO V-Cap dock insanity thread and then finding out that you sold it, tells us how much trouble you are really in.

You are a true Head-Fier! Just make sure you show up in NY because I have to meet the genuine Mr. Todd in the flesh and shake his hand.

The only folks that are spending that much money on tubes... need the care of Dr. Leo Marvin more than most of us out there - their OCD is totally out of control!

The Forum Administrators should give a "gift copy" of "Baby Steps" to anyone who reveals such obsession... and perhaps sponsor support group meetings... to hold them until they can get an appointment!

Your showing your age Billy!

Loving this set-up. Not only the sound but its FUN AS HELL!. I will post a review of the amp now that I have had the chance to play with it a bit. Also some interesting things in testing the sound of the DAC with and without a DIP in-line.

A/B'd a little with my imod as well. I put some thoughts down soon I was up till 2:30am just jammin'.

I have some GE 5814A's, but I doubt they are as nice as that Sylvania.

I have every 5814a you could name. The Sylvania gold pin, or stock Sylvania steel pin, is not that good of a tube IMO. The early 1950's Raytheon or Hytron 2 mica D getters are much better sounding with my gear. Since the Raptor is tonally lean the warmer sounding RCA 5814a would probably be a good choice. The TS 5814a is another warm sounding 5814a. The GE 5814a is a brighter and less refined sounding tube I doubt would be a good match.

I use the 5814a in a rebuilt Doge 6210 and have experimented with them in my SP amps. With brighter sounding new production 6p14p-eb output tubes in the Doge 6210 I get the best results with the RCA's.

My cans are pretty warm though dt990's 600 ohms

You are right about the system depending, I guess. In one I own Sylvania Gold deliver better sound than more expensive Mullard that I also have. Telefunken Smooth Plate with Diamond bottom is also a great match.
Only by trying you will know for sure.

My system is also pretty warm, so another thing to think about it are IC, which do make a huge difference as well. And again, much cheaper MicrophonicAudio RCA gives me more clarity and enjoyment. Check them on Ebay UK http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Microphonic-Au...QQcmdZViewItem
If the system become to warm I do not like it at all. I need more space between the instruments and better clarity in the sound.
So thats why I just bought a DH Labs BL-1 Series 2 with CARDAS connectors cable from Drew on Audiogon and very exciting about the result. Do not have them yet, but maybe next week or so. This cable isn't that expensive as well.
I wouldn't spend a lot of money for such things, just use what you have and try some decent and good quality TUBES and RCA's to hear the result. Just play with your beautiful toy and he will come to life, for sure. I am very interested in Raptor as well, but the money are funny, they are singing but not from out of my wallet.

I emailed the seller on the Gold tube wanting to see if the triodes were closley matched but I have not heard back!

I guess its not that important to him and will prob sell anyway.

Is this kind of special test, cos he claims that tube is 100% o.k.
