I just thought you want the best Telefunken 12AU7 since you have quite a nice OTL amp to take them therefore I recommend you to try Kuhl ECC802s Telefunken.
I must be the most crazy guy on headfi.

Oh I do!!! Trust me. With the holidays coming and a 2 year old. $500 tubes might be crossing the line! LOL!!!!

Sounds great I read the link you posted. How much is that tube without the process? Any good site you can recommend?

Generally Telefunken ECC802s is natural, detail and bright compared with Telefunken ECC82. It has better extended high and a more solid bass. When I use a pair on my CAT preamp, they usually sound exceptionally open and analyzed. It's good for classical but I like Amperex, mullard or Gold lion for vocal, solo instruments or new age. Most of people prefer ECC802s to ECC82and normally price is very high.

I think a reasonable current price for a single ECC802s is between 200-300$. Sometimes it may be more expensive.

You may ask Ray if he has any Telefunken ECC802s for sale. I bet he does have some for his own. It looks like he likes to use ECC82 tube on his designs. However Telefunken ECC82 should be the best buy for many people.

Right now I am using Sylvania 6189/12AU7WA Gold Brand with GOLD PINS. Highly recommended.

Look up here if you like, they aren't that expensive

Got the Ultrasonic 9 Hal-0 today. Hal-O is on the 12au7 and Reduced Microphonics to a bare min but more importantly crisped up the high end and over all details by a very noticable about. It is made of titanium with the pads rated at a very high temp.

I have ordered two more for the 5687's cant hurt.

Hey... no need to explain... or use the holidays and your 2 year old to justify not buying a $500 tube... or even a $200 tube for that matter.

The only folks that are spending that much money on tubes... need the care of Dr. Leo Marvin more than most of us out there - their OCD is totally out of control!

The Forum Administrators should give a "gift copy" of "Baby Steps" to anyone who reveals such obsession... and perhaps sponsor support group meetings... to hold them until they can get an appointment!

I have had many of these OCD episodes you speak of. After speaking to many Head-fiers I am starting to think OCD is very common in "Audiophiles"!

I wonder if there has ever been a study done on this?

After waiting all weekend for a small piece of titanium with small pads attached (the Hal-o) to place on a tube to arrive. I checked the mail box 4 times before 12:00 noon on Saturday so I'm pretty sure I qualify.

Only way to know is to try. System synergy or preference is sometimes (except those extreme's) the key thing to explain why some people happen to disagree with expensive tubes. Current price for tube is defined by its quality and rareness (and demand), not always quality though. You may get a very nice low price tube for the specific system.
Price is an explanation of the actual market value. For today's price of value Rockefeller made, Bill Gate is far far behind him. How much was the Marantz 7 sold back to 1960's?
