I sometimes listen to 'Tubular Bells 1973' as a fall back. I once listened to 'The Platinum Collection' compilation but it didn't really hit me. 'Tubular Bells 1973', part I, I think is genius and part II is slightly less for the vocals.

I sometimes wonder why instrumentals are so underestimated. Maybe I should check out the follow up of the first 'Tubular Bells.'

Tubular Bells 2003 is worth a listen, it's my favorite version (probably cos I heard it first).

If you prefer TB2003 to the original. Try the 2009 Oldfield remaster. It really does combine the best of both.
