I did check out the Oppo Chinese website (yes I can read Chinese) and I saw no mentioning of any DVD player at all. Check it out for yourself.

And the official product page of Oppo Digital, the US company who makes DVD players, there is no mentioning of any MP3/MP4 players.

So can you share with me how you came to the conclusion that they are the same company?

I think he is right -- or at least, closer to being right than you! As far as I know, there aren't ANY American companies that MAKE dvd players. At best, they sell rebranded players made by foreign companies, usually in China. I don't think they even get OEMs to work from American designs -- everything is done outside the U.S.

If you do a further web search, you'll probably find that Oppo Digital is often cited as being set up by a major Chinese electronics company, BBK. BBK probably is related to both Oppo in China and Oppo Digital in the U.S. (just as iriver in Korea and iriver USA are both related to the Korean company Reigncom).

I've seen DVD players here in China with the 步步高 brand on them, I had no idea the company had any connection with the "Oppo" I see written in the Roman alphabet on MP3 players here:

The fact that Oppo China and Oppo Digital don't sell the same products isn't surprising, either. Plenty of multinational corporations do that. For example, Kenwood sells whole categories of products in Japan that aren't for sale in North America.

I think you miss the point in its entirety

I don't want to hijack this thread anymore than I already did so this will be my last post on this subject. But I think you miss my point entirely, and regrettably, I have to say that, even with your additional info. I am still not convinced these two are the same company for the following reasons:

1) I agree with you that almost all DVD players are manufactured in Asia these days, the majority in China as a matter of fact. But that seems irrelevant to the subject at hand. I'm sure you are aware of the fact one can buy Philips DVD players in the US that are made in China, but that doesn't make Philips a Chinese company, does it?

Now back onto the subject, my response to the other post is based on the information the poster provided with the link to Oppo the DAP company. I couldn't find anything on that site about DVD players. So I was wondering what leads to the conclusion that these two are the same company, based on the information on that site. Now with the additional info. from your link, we can establish that Oppo Digital is a subsidiary of BBK, but there is no evidence whatsoever that Oppo the DAP company is part of BBK (or vice versa), is there? The association between BBK and Oppo Digital makes sense since they both sell DVD players but DAP is a different story. Note that BBK is not using the name/trademark Oppo in the Chinese market, probably for a good reason.

2) More importantly, as a consumer, I dont' really care about where their design teams are physically located or about their financial backings (provided they don't go bankrupt ). What I do care is whether I get the same level of post-sale service and the same quality (OEM'ed or not) in their products, which are the essence of what's behind a name/brand. So far we are unable to establish any association between these two companies on the quality/service platform, or ownership for that matter.

So are they the same company? Well you can draw your own conclusion but to me they are not, at least not in the sense of product sales or support.

Hm, this looks like a very attractive DAP for those who want to go amp-less.

Where else can you get this, besides HouseOfDAP? They seem to be sold out.

I sent Oppo Digital an email but its been about a week and they have not gotten back to me.

How is the Video on this Player?

Is the interface still sluggish after the newest firmware update.

yeah. i was seriously considering the Meizu SL6 for a while, but this is nice.

so bang for buck, why is this 2gb player worth as much as a meizu 4gb?
