Zune software sucks...any Rockbox-ish firmware available?

Thread Starter
So I saw that Rockbox initially planned to release a version for the Zune...wtf happenned?

I hate this Zune interface, as it's a horrible attempt at iTunes. The interface on the Zune itself is awesome, but I hate the software on my PC...any solution?

Never EVER buy music on iTunes...cause now I'm stuck trying to figure out how to port my music over, lol.

Solutions? Wait for the new software? Seriously that's all I know of at the moment. I'm somewhat anxiously awaiting it, since I will agree, the software is a hindrance.

Currently no other option.

Why do you think it sucks?
I just got my refurbished Zune from Woot.
Drag and Drop, click Sync.
Simple.

Looks like they haven't broken the security yet...

After playing around with the Zune software I think its not bad per say. But not having native drag in drop or windows media player compatibility makes it a pain to use in any PC without the Zune software allready installed on it, which makes it BADDDDD . That in by itself is what makes it totally suck.
Also its sounding better after 4 day break-in.
Zune>headstage amp>Porta Pro(all new stuff)

Okay.

You can sync with WMP11 if you would prefer.

GET zSuite HERE

features:

zSuite

It is finally finished. zSuite. What is it you may ask? Well, that is a very good question...

zSuite is a program suite used to facilitate the application of all known Zune hacks. Basically, it automates and does for you all of the Zune hacks that we know of now, and it comes with some never before released hacks (including a hack that will allow you to sync your Zune with WMP11). It makes hacking the Zune a very user friendly experience and allows for greater efficiency for those of us who do know what we are doing.

This suite comes with the following appliers/patchers/mods/etc.:

1 - Zune AutoPlay Support Patcher - causes the AutoPlay box to pop up when the Zune is connected
2 - Zune Guest Mode Disabler - disables guest syncing in the Zune program
3 - Zune Icon Changer - changes the default icon for your Zune (the suite comes with 11 icons you can choose from)
4 - Zune In Explorer Patcher - makes it so that your Zune appears in Windows Explorer
5 - Zune Marketplace Disabler -disables the marketplace in the Zune program
6 - Zune Multi-Extension Support Patcher - makes it so the Zune program will pick up and sync many more types of media
7 - Zune Service Provider Alternator - Allows you to SYNC THE ZUNE WITH WMP11!!!!! (I'm serious)
8 - Zune Skin Applier - applies custom skins to your Zune program (the suite comes with 9 skins)

I don't really understand why people dislike the zune software so much. I know that it is not perfect but it is really simple and works fine. I don't use it as my default media player as I have foobar, but I think it is just as good as Itunes.

Ok heres the game plan. I buy a brand new greatest, most fantastic blues album in the whole wide world and I only have 30 minutes for lunch break. So I stop at my best buds house. I rip the cd out of its protective plastic(15 minutes there for shure)but it still leaves me 7 minutes. I can still make it!! I carefully plug in my Zune and load the cd. NO! Crap I cant use WMP or drag and drop!! No time to install the zune software!!!Oh no!! The time!!
So I run back to work but I am late. The boss fires me and I end up on skid row.
That is why Zune software sucks.

Oh no, just can't wait that little bit longer to get home and do it. I've never had the urge nor the need to add music to a DAP anywhere but my own computer. The software sucks for you, it doesn't suck as a whole.

The Zune Software sucks because you can't be patient enough to get home or wait till you are in your car to listen to an album... uh huh.

Come on tying your dap to special software is not right. I bought it with my money and dont like these restrictions. It stinks especially when Microsoft pushed there windows media player in every copy of windows to make it a industry standard then make it incompatable. That in itself is microcrappy.
I cant believe that anyone would defend that either.

Will the patch make the Zune compatible to any computer running wmp11? Or does this patch the software in windows and not the firmware in the player? I would just like to be able to either drag and drop or use wmp in any computer that I plug the Zune into without having to download special software on every computer I use. Will the new updates in November fix this issue?
Thank you.

It's a registry patch.
As far as being able to sync it to any wmp11, I doubt that'll come. It's a downside to the whole Zunepass thing.

Strange complaint of the Zune software. I've heard that alot of people find it crap but never got around to trying it for myself.

In the above scenario for example, the same problem exists for iPods and iTunes. Except that there are third party apps which allow you to copy things onto it... but they dont quite support Classic and Touch yet I believe? Or perhaps that happened while I wasn't paying attention. Still, that's just what third party provides, and most people get by with iTunes and don't complain (I hate iTunes myself).

I just wonder if there's any other legitimate issue with the Zune software that people are complaining about (that isn't already commonly accepted by the iPod loving public).
