Do you often find people think you're crazy spending over $20 on headphones? - Page 4

I agree with all of you here! Most of my friends don't spend even more then 20USD on headphones (if they even buy them) from where I come from..

Also, people are shocked when they found out that you spent $300 for re-cabling your headphones. They think you're crazy ..... seriously crazy.

I am a teenager and I get the worst responses. All the time I hear them say music is music, theres no difference so why do you have to spend so much money on it. So I ask them why they spend so much money on their clothes at (Abercrombie, Hollister, etc) and they just drop the subject.

I tell anyone who wants to know. They're pretty amazed at how much audio stuff costs but I have a little tactic that works all the time.

You tell them how much it costs and they are stunned. They ask why would you spend that much on headphones. You say because you miss so much of the music, so much of the stuff that the band wanted you to hear when you listen with the earbuds that came with your Ipod. Change the subject right after you say that.

Then, in a few days, they will start to think "maybe I am missing something" they'll start "trying" to listen to their Ibuds analytically and they start to feel like maybe there is something I'm missing. So in a few days you have a bunch of people asking you about your headphones and how they want to hear them and where to get them.

Now I kinda wish I hadn't told anyone.

So now when I'm out in public with my E4c's (I don't wear DT880's outside) my answer to "what are those earphones""

is going to be

"My Ipod ones broke and I just bought some new cheap ones from wallmart"

From now on

EDIT: Also for the guys who have Nike's to match every shirt they own this works:

A = Me
B= Nike kid

B= Yo how much those headphones cost?
A = Around $100
B = You're crazy those aren't even BOSE!
A = Hey nice shoes, how much they cost?
B = $125, I got like 6 other pairs they're pretty dope

Let that sink in for a second...

B = ...those headphones are pretty cool
A = Ya they are, have fun color coordinating your wardrobe!

lol yes, some of my friends are shocked when they heard my headphone cable cost $200.
but after a while... when ever they come over... there is a silent rule that stated "what ever you do, do not step, sit, play around, bend, or put anything on any cable that Frank has"
so... shrug... I think most of my friends are used to it.

well... for the the rest of them that can't understand HI-Fi is all about... I just shrug, start shaking my head, smile, and do not answer any of his comment any more

I used to think that 80$ was too much for the senneheiser mx200 .. (or 300.. or something.. whatever).

But then I bought Shure E4C's. I only tell the people I know will understand.

I can't wait for my Sennheiser HD 600's to come

My family thinks I'm crazy, but my parents were kind enough to get me Denon D2000s for my birthday. They just came in. First order of business is to convert my brother to the world of hi-fi.

I was telling my best friend about my recent purchase of 2 headphones and an amp. Of course the first question was: How much? When I told him it was a tad over $1,000, I thought he might need CPR! By Head-Fi standards, a thousand is small potatoes for 2 HP's and an amp.

He has a set of Shures and a 5.5g iPod, I think they're the 1c's. Anyway, he said it about killed him to spend a C note on earbuds. What I find amusing is that he has almost a thousand CD's. For someone who has invested probably over 6 or $7K on music, I expected a much different reaction.

Oh well, to each his own.

My dad totally gets it and my mom doesn't bother. My dad is the one I got a lot of my gear from as he is a big AV guy.

Try explaining your $100 + fountain pen as they're throwing it across the table, or you $300 custom pocket knife as they do stupid things with it..
