Sennheiser HD 25-1 II: 650 cable --> Senn V2

First, let me thank everyone for all of the info I've been able to quietly gather (read: troll) when making decisions about where my audio budget will go.

That said, my latest purchase has been a set of HD 25-1's that I have upgraded to the 650 stock cable (shortened and modded with mini-plug). I am incredibly satisfied with the improvement the 650 cable provides over the stock cable. To be honest, I was a bit skeptical that the difference would be so noticable, but it really is; bass is much more focused, soundstage is improved, and the mids really come to life.

I am now hoping that users who have had considerable experience with the HD 25-1's using stock, 650, and Larry's Senn v2 cables could give me an idea about how dramatic the improvement is when stepping up from the 650 cable to the Senn v2. In other words, if the improvement from stock to 650 would be, say, 30%, is the improvement from 650 to Senn V2 as considerable? 20%? 10%?

Obviously, to make such a judgment would require that one has had reasonable exprerience with all three cables, so, please, no "guess work" responses.

Thanks in advance for any feedback.

Anyone? Any help would be appreciated. I just want some input before I spend relatively big bucks on another cable.

i'm not sure that many people know the answer to your question. the answer of the benefits of upgrading 600s and 650s is well documented. i think the concept of upgrading a hd25-1 is plowing new ground . . .

I think there is a much much bigger difference in going from steel to copper compared to going to from copper to silver.

I'd keep the 650 cable, and put the money towards an amp or some hd-580's instead.

I'd say the improvement from stock steel cable to HD650 cable is an additional 25% and another 15% going to cryo'd black dragon.

But, on my HD600 going from stock to the black dragon was like adding 25% instead of 15%

Going the other direction, a stock HD25 is only 50% of a stock HD600, an HD25 with Black dragon cable is still only 70% of a stock HD600, then what is an HD600 with black dragon vs a stock HD25 again? Sorry, but I got myself lost here...

Thanks, guys, for the replies. I had pretty much given up on my query after such a long spell of silence, but I am glad I checked back.

I understand that the 25's cables aren't routinely upgraded, but they are, IMO, the best choice for closed cans. Of course, the 580's are much sweeter, but a different animal.

Based on my enjoyment of the headphones and the replies here, I think I'll stick with my current setup...quite happy.

Thanks again!
