Minibox-E/PK1 Combo: Anyone try it? - Page 3

How do you charge the Minibox-E? Does the power switch have to be on, or will it charge with it off? There is no battery indicator on the amp to know if it is charging or if it has a full charge. Thanks, CK

I am not sure if it needs to be charged before I use it.
Fang told me to charge it for 12 hours before using it. He also said that the light on the front does not go on while it is being charged, but that 12 hours should be sufficient. I have had the PK 1s for about a week and they need burn in. They are sounding very good now, nice and full with good bass, but it took a few days for them to clarify as they were slightly veiled at first. They also need a lot of power to drive them well as they are not that efficient. The Minibox drives them very well, but straight out of an Ipod they don't sound anywhere near their potential as far as I am concerned.

Does this mean you shouldn't initially use the amp even while it is plugged into the ac adapter? I assume the amp charges while it's powered on and plugged into the wall. I would think it shouldn't be bad for the battery to use straight out of the box unless you only use battery power. Anybody know the answer? -CK

I doubt that it is bad for the amp, it just won't fully charge that way. When you finish listening to it, it would probably be good to charge it up over night.

Yeah, I've got it charging right now. I guess the burn in will have to begin tomorrow. Thanks

I'm in the same position, mine came today also, but once it's topped off you won't have to worry about it again. I have a friend of mine's unit also, and my new one with no burn in sounds very good even compared to the burned in one, so no worries about the sound quality.

Have you rolled any op-amps yet?

Hey CK,

I see you have moved on from the Minibox-E/PK1s? Did you just grow out of them?

I quite fancy trying this set up but see it is around the $400 mark now at Head-Direct. Ouch!
