Minibox-E/PK1 Combo: Anyone try it? - Page 2

I can't think of a reason not to get the Minibox-E. I was thinking about the Headsix, but the Minibox has the different switches that will be great with my im716, and it's thinner. Where is the best place to purchase it? Do different vendors offer different warranties?

Thanks, CK

You can buy it at Head-Direct. I am not aware of other sites selling it.

I ordered the Minibox-E/PK1 combo today and received an email saying the Minibox-E is out of stock currently. I was told it will be between 10-14 days before it ships. I guess this means the amp's popularity is gaining some steam. I'm not good with patience. I ordered a Xin amp a week ago, and I have already cancelled my order in favor of the more realizable Minibox-E. -CK

I ordered the yuin/minibox e combo last night too. I got the same e-mail about it being out of stock. I think that the website should reflect that the amp isn't immediately available. Nonetheless I am anxiously awaiting my order. I really like my pk2,s and can't imagine something the same size sounding better.

Ordered the combo yesterday with the same result, however, I asked them to send me the PK-1 right away and after I paid for the separate shipping they are sending the phones while we wait for the amps to be back in stock.

Also ordered the MiniboxE, and have to wait. Oh well. Waited nearly a month for the $25 PK3s when the Chinese had a week-long national holiday.

Can't wait to hook up the PK1. FYI, the PK3 sounds awful good through an amp as well (matches up well with the Penguin Classic I have). But I want the PK1/MbE experience.

I got the im716 after I tried the minibox E. The im716 already are high impedance for IEMs, I dont know if adding more impedance would do anything except for making them more quieter.

Well, I was under the impression it might have the same effect that P to S cable has on the Ety Er4, which from all accounts is a good change. I just wanted to see if anyone could verify this. -CK

the im716 is the S version of the etys not the P.

I'm not sure about your IEM's but the PtoS switch definitely makes a difference when using my E4c's, more "full" sound and better extension of the highs and lows.

Maybe in terms of difficulty in driving, but I don't think there is a definite consensus on what driver is in the im716. Most say it's not quite up to the level of the Er4p, so I'll have to wait for my amp to see whether the switch makes a difference. Thanks though, CK

Anyone received the combo yet since the backorder? I ordered it two weeks ago, and I'm still waiting. -CK

I ordered my combo on oct. 18th and it arrived today, three days after Fang told me it shipped. I am really happy with his service. He priority mailed it to me and included two usps envelopes in case I wanted to send them back. I am very happy with the amp and pk1, I just wish there was an instruction book for the amp. I am not sure if it needs to be charged before I use it.

I got mine in today as well. I have just been using it with the ac adapter plugged in. Hopefully you aren't supposed to fully charge it before using it.

The pk1's are really comfortable compared to my im716s. It's like they're not even there. I think they need to burn-in to get the best out of them, so detailed impressions to follow. Right now, they definitely sound good, but they are a little light in the bass coming from my Koss KSC35/75s.

The Minibox-E was smaller than I expected, even after seeing pictures. It's like a deck of cards, but thinner. This is my first headphone amp, so I am still trying to appreciate the subtle differences between this and the headphone out of the iPod I had been using. I'm using a Pocketdock line-out (maybe an upgrade in the future) with the included mini-to-mini interconnect.

I have tried the amp with all my Koss phones including: KSC35, KSC75 and A250. They sound great with the Minibox-E, and I like the effect the PtoS switch has on them, especially the KSCs. I'm still not sure whether the change is for the better on the A250s.

Next I tried out the im716 with the Minibox-E. They sounded smoother and less edgy to say the least. At first I didn't notice as much change in the bass as I expected compared to the iPod headphone out. I decided to try the PtoS switch, and immediately the bass sounded much fuller. The change could be described as going from only hearing the bass to hearing and feeling the bass.

Now all that's left is to let the Minibox-E and PK1 burn in together. I'm pleased already, so any positive changes over time will just be icing on the cake!

Burn the MiniBox-E for 200 hours and the PK1 for 100 hours before making a final judgement.
