I think it will help warm up the RE2, especially with the bass boost. It might sound a little edgy at first till you get 200 hours on the amp and the RE2 each.

I'm a newbie in regard to amps, does the Caffeine have a rechargeable battery?

Edit: Nevermind

I've had the "Penguin Caffeine" for a few months now, its in my computer rig. (Foobar 2000 -> Fubar II USB Dac -> Penguin Caffeine -> grado SR225) For the 1st time since I purchased the "Caffeine" I used the amp with the bass boost on and the gain set to high, it's like the sound just jumped up a notch or two, the sound stage is fantastic. It's gone 3 in the morning my toes have not stopped tapping all night and I'm not giving in yet.......It's a good job I don't work in the morning...;-)

Larry. The "PenguinAmp Caffeine" is only about half the cost of the "PenguinAmp Royal", is the Royal worth the extra $'s?

No. It's either this review or another one (see my public profile "about me" for links) that I voted for the Caffeine Pro over the Royal as they were similar enough that the extra cost wasn't warranted.

Hey, everybody.

This question has probably come up a milion times in the past,
but roughly how long does it take for
the penguinamp products to get shipped?

I've looked around several sites and forums,
and so far I've seen things from 7 days to 17 days...
(I'm sure it depends on where in the world you're living too)

According to my account, the caffeine amp I ordered
was shipped on around the beginning of June.
It's been roughly 13 - 14 days since then,
but I still haven't received it,
so I was wondering how long I should wait
before e-mailing them to ask about the amp...

Any time between now and the 17 day maximum that it has taken for others to get theirs.

Thanks a lot for the reply.

I'm just at the end of my 16th day,
so I think I'll e-mail them around the 18th or so,
if I don't get it by then.

I knew that it would take time from the start,
but I was just a bit worried that it may have gotten lost
during the shipping since there's no way to track it.

ok i'm interested... i'll probably pick one blemished caffeine up with the charger..

2 questions:

can i burn in the amp by connecting it to my ipod and leaving it on shuffle without connecting headphones/earphones?

does the amp come with interconnects?

No, and no. You need to play music through head/earphones and supply your own cables and charger. They might still come with a free 9v battery, but I am not sure.

Can the penguin be used without a battery if you plug it into the wall? Also does it come with a power connector?

You can use it that way without battery, but you have to leave it open to plug in the power adapter into the jack on the inside.
