God, I'm glad I bailed out on my order and got a Rudistor. There's zero excuse for this.
No, I am not kidding you.
Justin started building the KGBH SE around March/April last year, and he still have not finished the first one.
...and from what I understand its the enclosures that are holding him back.

Enjoy the Rudistor!

That and the whole amp has been redesigned for better thermal stability which wasn't really necessary but Justin did it anyway. The amp is supposed to last a long time and that requires work when it puts out 130W+ of heat.

I ordered one. I have an original Blue Hawaii so once the BHSE is done sometime in the future I'll be able to compare.

Did anyone opt for the Alps RK50 volume control upgrade?

Any chance you're selling the old one?

Don't you need to pay Justin the full amount if you put your name down for one

No, just a deposit.

No, just a 25% deposit. Which of $4500 should be $1125...

I'm in on the current/initial run, even have about 47% of it paid off already. Now I just need to sell some stuff to cover the remaining 53%...

Justin told me at CanJam '08 that the BHSE will look something like the Aristaeus, except without the wood side-accents.

Do you have any experience designing or building amps? If not, I suggest you don't make unfounded accusations like that, you don't know what Justin's been doing. He's been building the BHSE from the ground up since he started, and he maintains other product lines too. I'm sure if he didn't sell any other amps, the BHSE would've been ready by now.

Also you can't really compare one-offs or custom products otherwise to the instantly-available amps from vendors like RudiStor. It's great that RudiStor makes their amps available near instantly but the R&D on their amps has already been done, whereas most of the wait for the BHSE has been for that exactly.

I know of one person who's in for the RK50, boomana. Going with the DACT myself, $1K for a volume pot is way too over-the-top for me.

Oh no, I ticked off one of the cult members...

I'm sorry, but that's a lame argument. You don't take $1000+ deposits for something that is still theoretical. When I ordered mine, I was told that product development was finished and that the amp would arrive in November 2007. Now it appears that the final prototype hasn't even been built if one believes all the changes that are claimed to be taking place. As far as I'm concerned, that's fraud.

So if you're going to ask me if I have any experience building an amp, I'm going to have to ask you if Justin has any experience taking a Business 101 course. I've ordered top quality headphone amps from four companies that were able to get me my amps within a month max. If he can't handle more than one product line (the Pico) he should not sell the others. He's holding over $20,000 worth of deposits for something he hasn't even developed yet! If this were being done with cables people on this website would be up in arms.

Personally I don't mind the wait for the BHSE. I was never given a definite date by Justin but figured it would be a while based on the Aristaeus builds.

I will be selling my original Headamp Blue Hawaii once I receive my BHSE.

I opted for the RK50 option - after using a DACT from my previous Apache, I most definitely prefer the smoothness and control that comes with a pot. Justin states the inclusion of the RK50 will involve some small alignment adjustments to the front panel but shouldn't cause any significant delays.

My guess is that most people don't have the original amp, so your case may be a special one.

I'm sorry but I have to side with earwicker and agree that wait times like that are ridiculous, especially if deposits have been taken. Head-fier's justifying such poor professionalism are just helping it continue...

wow!

you opted for the 1K volume pot. madness. but what on head-fi isn't. :P

Madness indeed but I think this is my last act of madness since joining HF

Earwicker, I don't see a problem with you getting what you want when you want it....if that's what you want. Justin does need to get a lot better at communicating delays, but fraud is an ugly word to toss out, especially when untrue, and I don't recall anyone ever not getting a full refund of their deposit if that's what they choose. You also mentioned that there's no prototype. There is, and it sounds amazing with O2s.

I don't know about others who have ordered, but I signed up with a good idea of what to expect, both in the quality of what I'll be getting and the potential delays, maybe lengthy, that may crop up. The first far outweighs the last, in my opinion, and I made my decision. The same is true for other builders (long delays), and not for some. You investigate what you want, weigh things out, and choose. I can't imagine anyone dropping $5000 plus and not taking the time to know the whole deal. Anyone looking at the history of the Aristaeus would know what to expect. Was the wait worth it for the owners? They'd have to tell you, but I only know of yeses. This isn't a quicky mass-produced amp, but that's not what I ordered. If Justin wants to tweak the design more while I enjoy my other rigs, I want him to do it. If I wanted an amp now, or very soon, I'd buy a different amp, as you did. The point is that I want this one, no one else is building it, and if that means waiting to get what I want, then that is what I want. Others may think differently, but then they can buy something else.

To answer someone else's question, I think (could be wrong) that there are 12-13 amps, and about half will have the RK50, including mine.
