Zune Questions

Anybody have a guesstimate as to how many songs a 30 gig Zune would hold encoded at 224 AAC?

Has it ever been confirmed if the Zune has a 30mah headphone out?

Don't laugh too hard at this one, does the Zune/software work with Windows 98 SE?

Could the sync cord on a Zune be plugged into the USB port on an Oppo 970 and play through it?

Sorry, I'm a DAP idiot noob.

it doesnt work with W98...not ME no W2K...just Windows XP SP...Windows Media Center and Vista.

The USB port should supply at least 500mah for the Zune to work. what is an Oppo 970, btw?

30GB = 4,359 4:00 songs at 224kbps
http://www.ilounge.com/index.php/ipod/calculator/

i am fairly sure it won't work with the oppo interface since it uses its own standard for file transfer and the head unit won't be able to access the files on the drive.

Good thing I have an XP machine at work.

iTunes works with the Zune doesn't it. I plan on ripping my CD's into iTunes and then putting them on the Zune. Or do I have to use the Zune software? Does iTunes work on Windows 98?

no, itunes does not work with the zune. the zune software will take aac files ripped with itunes, but you can't use itunes to load the zune. itunes requires xp as well.

Wow. 98. Really?

I think everyone about answered your questions.

There's always a standard 3.5mm to RCA cable you can get at Radioshack if you want to input into your Oppo.

The Oppo 970 is a high quality dvd player that has fantastic upscaling to high def resolutions for your HDTV.

Well you guys convinced me. I went and bought a new laptop with
Vista and an additional 300gb external portable hard drive. Now I have to figure out how to get 5,000 CD's onto it. From what I've seen the Zune should work with Vista if all current updates are in place. Thanks for the help guys. And yes, my home computer was a Windows 98 machine bought in early 1999 and yes it still functioned well.

You'll be happier with the new functionality. Also, you might want to wait on getting your CD's onto it. Although, 300GB won't hold all 5,000, it'll come close, depending. Remember, with the update, and new Zunes, Lossless will be supported. You might want to hold off until the update to decide what format you're going to rip them in.

Anyone know how much space a CD ripped with WMA lossless takes up?

Good point. I'll probably just wait until the mid-November software update before I start ripping CD's. Thanks.

I wish someone would figure out a way to put a USB output on the Zune that would accept an external portable hard drive to play music on so it would be unlimited storage. Just carry as many portable hard drives as you want.

And the new ones better have a line out!!! Nobody seems to know this yet, including customer support at Microsoft.

should be around the same as alac, so you could use the ilounge calculator i linked to above.

why should he wait? the current zune software will rip to wma lossless if he wants to use that. might as well get started before the player arrives, thats a lot of ripping.

I heard of doing the dual HD thing to a Zune, but i wonder if ya have to choose HD1 or HD2? Weird stuff. Yeah so the main thing though is i want line-out!!!
WAKE UP MICROSOFT!!!! I hope its in the new Zune!!!

My Portable CD Player, Sony D CJ01 Sounds better on line-out than my Zune does, but i dont want to carry a bunch of CDs with me. Im not talking about using the original CD on lossless and MP3 on Zune either,im saying the same CD i got the music from at the same bit rate compression, both MP3 etc.

Thats my main thing.....then id like alot more space, like 160gb like the new Ipod Classic has, so i can go lossless and fit all my music on it....hopefully,maybe dual 160's??? lol

Youre always full of info though,Ricardo.
