Help Diagnose my Problem please!

Well, needless to say I was a bit gung-ho when I got my DT880s in the mail today (cardas recabled as well) and started trying them on all sorts of sources. Straight out of a NAD stereo receiver and lame KOSS DVD player source they already sounded quite amazing. Good soundstage, resolution, clarity, depth, all of that. Im sure with a better source they could sound great.

I have planned to run the sound out of my Ipod 60g 5gen through my Headstage portable amp and out the cans. The thing is, so far I've only got a regular radio shack style interconnect for the ipod to the amp, and i've got a radioshack adapter for the large headphone connector to convert it to a small one for the little amp.

Now here's the problem (please bear with me, Im sure some of you are cringing at what I've put together here- I was excited to get the system together!) : the soundstage got super narrow and the sound became decently muffled- where'd that awesome treble and detail go?

My question: is this the connectors? Would they mess up the sound that much??

If it is those, anyone have some suggestions?
PS: I am running out of the headphone output of the Ipod and not the dock - I did some research and found that the output is quite clean through either the HF out or the port. Ran it at 75% volume.

Thanks for help!

I doubt I'll be much help, but I don't think it's the connectors unless they're not stereo to stereo. Even then, it shouldn't do what you describe.

Sounds like a problem somewhere between your source, input or output of your amp.

Sorry I'm not more help.

Ps, Does your Ipod run on batteries?

Are you using the ipods line out?

Edit, didn't read all =/.
Try getting a line out dock, should improve the sound. Otherwise your just amping an already amplified signal.

changed the adapter and input cables for nice gold plated units and the sound improved A LOT. Up to the level I was expecting, they are making my Beyers sing!
