UE Super.Fi 5 from Earphone Solutions

I recently ordered a gift for my son, a pair of Ultimate Ears Super.Fi 5's from Earphone Solutions. No doubt this will be my last purchase from this retailer.

Purchased the Super.Fi 5's for $165.00. Upon giving it to my son, it was unfortunately not the IEM he wanted. Unopened, I returned them to Earphone Solutions.

The issue me a credit for $132.00??? What gives??? The Super.Fi's were unopened...

I was going to order a pair of Westone 3's from Earphone Solutions...

I don't think so now...

They probably charged you a restocking fee. I did the easy math, they charged you a 20% restocking fee. That's extremely high. If it's unopened, they shouldn't charge you anything, especially if you returned them immediately. In the future, buy from Amazon.com. They are one of the best E-tailers on line. I buy as much stuff from them as I can. But I bought my Triple.Fi directly from UE, since I won a contest and I got $25.00 off.

By the way, which IEMs did he want?

They might have restocking fees. Also, did you pay for shipping back to them?

Ahhh beat me to it...I'm curious what IEM's he wanted too...You could've probably sold the UE's on the FS forum for $140.

Pez,
Well I did sell my SF5pro for $125 I think. And they were in perfect shape. So unopened he could probably get $140 for them, maybe more.

But the guy returned them unopened. It's just wrong for a retailed (Earphone Solutions) to subtract $32 for restocking.

I will make sure I buy from Amazon to avoid any issues this this

Since I was planning to order the Westone 3's...you think Earphone Solutions would have at least given me a store credit for my $165.00. That would have been fine.

Now, I will order my Westone 3's from someone else...Amazon maybe

Good choice. You won't go wrong with Amazon. These small e-tailers don't usually carry inventory, so they have to order them when yoiu order them. They pay shipping to get them to their location, and then they pay shipping to send it back to the manufacturer. That would probably cost $12 at most. Add in a few bucks for labor and a few bucks for packaging supplies, and you're up to $20. A set price of $20 is understandable, but they probably try to recoup money they lose when having to return cheaper items from other buyers. $32 is just ridiculous.

But that is the price you pay when using small companies. Things like that should be noted in big letters before you type in your credit card number. Keeping it hidden in small type isn't right, and that's what most of those e-tailers do.

Stick with Amazon, I've never ever had a problem with them. That is, for purchasing an item.

If you are a seller, Amazon is horrible to deal with:

Dealing with Amazon's website department for one of my customers was a major headache though. Out of 10 different graphic formats, they couldn't use any of them. It was a picture of a book that they were going to put on their website. They do not care about their vendors at all. They refuse to even call the vendor if there is a problem. They only send messages by e-mail.

All thing being equal (or so I thought)...I ordered from Earphone Solutions mainly to support a forum vendor.

It's not that $32.00 is a big amount of money...it's just the principle. Especially for an unopened item.

My purpose of this thread is to hopefully prevent someone else from going through the same (unfair) purchase experience as I have just had.

This forum is in part about sharing good experiences / products...as well as warning others about bad experiences

Did you call them to ask about the $33 difference?

Sent them an e-mail... I will follow-up with a telephone call tomorrow.

Over the years, I have purchased audio products from a number of retailers...and never have had an issue like this. In any return I have made in the past, the only amount which wasn't refunded was the shipping (which is understandable)

I returned the Super.Fi's to Earphone Solution within 48 hours of receiving them. Again...unopened.

I'd mention the fact that you were planning to get the Westones and negotiate for a store credit.....and you're a long standing member of head.fi, where you got their name in the first place. Good luck.

Most of the Head-Fi sellers will be willing to work with you. They don't want negative feedback. In my opinion, it's one's moral responsibility to do the right thing in the first place. But I'm sure they will work it out with you.

I will contact Earphone Solutions tomorrow morning and give them the opportunity to do the "right thing". I would be happy to simply apply my refund credit of $165.00 toward the purchase of Westone 3's

I will keep everyone updated on the outcome...

So which one's did your son want? Are the Westone 3 for you or him? Awfully expensive gift. Are they even out yet? I didn't think they were.
