But saying it as top-notch DAC I would have reservations. Granted, I haven't heard it yet, but this is almost a disbelief that the Pico is on par with those dedicated external DACs

No one is comparing the Pico’s DAC to dedicated DAC reaching the thousand dollar barrier except you.
While you are at it, drop in the B-52, RSA Apache, and Zana Deux and comment on your disbelief. Also add in some $100,000 speakers system into the equation and state your doubts (“this is almost disbelief that a headphone system (smaller space requirement) is on par with those dedicated speaker’s system (room dynamic, etc) – pricing in the 6 figures”). By the way, since you are on a roll, drop by all the portable threads and let those idiots know that dedicated AMP and dedicated DAC costing multiple times more are better sounding.
You ride into a portable “speculation” thread on your white high horse whipping out what can only be considered as narcissistic ego driven listing what the term “top-notch” DAC is. According to you, what is an appropriate adjective to describe the Pico’s DAC?
-Good
-Stella
-Top-notch for portable (same thing as top-notch when in the context of a portable thread)
-Fantastic
-Spectacular (see top-notch for portable)
-First class
-Respectable

I would like to see you take the Opera DAC/AMP combo to Starbucks, library, beach, park, etc… and indulged in your belief.

I do not appreciate your rant base on the technicality of an adjective.

I don't have to say what I WOULD bet on.
I can say what I AM betting on.
A Xin Reference Amp.

And it's not a bet, it's the price of admission to an exploration of some of the terrain of headphone audio guided by the good Dr. Xin Feng. So far, I really don't mind the wait - the anticipation is just too delicious!

"why must it take sooo long"

I once owned a Xin amp and it was very good but the waiting game was too much so I doubt that I'll ever buy another Xin amp.

I'm looking forward to receiving a Pico.

I used to wonder why some one who seemed so grown up used the word cool on his stie so often ..now I know lol
Age is not the criterion -- Mick Jagger is older than dirt, but he is certainly allowed to use the word "cool", I would think.
Other examples abound, of course....
