I think they look pretty sweet I wonder why companies never bundled nicer in-ears with their players. It seems like it would make the public think they sounded better than the competitors, even though all it was was the headphones.

I like the HDD unit, not the flash one so much. Doesn't matter because I'll never own flash until they break 30GB.

If they have a chrome back, I will be thoroughly disappointed.

Same here. Microsoft succumb to pressure from 3rd-party case makers perhaps?

The looks, OK. I remember what many were saying about Nano, and it is very comfortable. Will see when it comes out...

Hmm, the first Zune pictured has a pink back. The rest though, look off-white / yellowish although it's hard to tell.

Think its Gates sticking it to Jobs? I mean really, does Microsoft/Gates really need any more money?

I'm quite surprised about all of the negative feedback towards the new Zune. Here's what Engadget is reporting.

Points to Microsoft for finally rewriting the terrible Zune software and providing a DRM free store (they've been one of the, if not the biggest proponents for DRM in the past). The seem to be developing a sort of last.fm killer, which sounds very interesting.

The first generation Zune hardware was solid for the most part, so I'm actually wondering if Microsoft will meet my expectations (add gapless!). I was going to buy a 160GB iPod classic this week too.

Or do you mean loose money? I can promise they aren't making any money on these or the Xbox 360. In fact, quite the opposite.

Maybe another release of these, and they might begin to break even on the Zune.

I'm not too crazy about the flash Zunes, but I think the new hdd Zune looks great. Almost the same size as an iPod Classic, updated interface, better software (hopefully), etc. I'm not too crazy about the touch controls, but every device seems to have gone to touch controls anyway. I just wonder if they are keeping the screen QVGA because if so, then it might actually look blurrier than the 1st gen Zune.

The BIGGEST mistake MS made with the new Zunes was giving the Flash version a 1.8" screen. It should be at least 2.5".

I just read somewhere that it was still QVGA...

I don't mind the look of these new zunes, not that it really matters to me tho as I'm not a 'portable' guy, and I use a Mac.

Given that this is a PHOTO thread, it's definitely all about the looks.

Besides, I don't get those people who think good sounding players don't need to be beautiful. It's not unrealistic to ask for the best of both worlds.
