325i or RS-2? - Page 3

I purchased my vintage RS2s ( no serial number, older headband and dark wood) for $350. I paid $240 for my MS2is. For me there is something special about the wooden Grados. That being said, the MS2i/SR325i is the sweet spot in the current lineup. In your situation, I would go with some MS2is and rotate pads to taste.

Good joke! :D

SR325i are way better than SR225 with their rolled-off trebles, shallow bass, non-existing soundstage and shrilling midrange. RS325i are very good however I believe RS series is superior.

It will be a while until I purchase some, but is the ~$100 price difference between the RS-2 and the MS2i/SR32i worth it? Seems like a bad question, since I'll get so many answers but I'll give it a shot

RS2 are lighter and should be less aggressive. I think RS2 is a safer buy. I've been warned against SR325i but there are so many things they do really well so that I forgive them their slight imperfections. Actually I was hunting for any of these two but decided on a deal with a trusted person.

SR325i!

Okay,... so I went to a local headphone shop and tryed out Denon D2000 and Grado RS2 & SR325i. I tried it with some Modest Mouse, The Strokes, and Kings of Leon as well as some T. Monk and Mingus. Well,... I got my SR325i and they are burning in now! I thought the RS2 does sound more refine while the SR325i is kinda like RS2 on caffine. But I love it. I can see how some people think that the SR325i might be sibiliant but I think the taped ear pad mod really helps. Also,.. what made me decide to get SR325i instead is because I know I will end up gettin RS1 sometime in the future and SR325i is just so perfect for now and what it does!

The MS2is are really great cans. If price was a factor, I would select the MS2i's over the RS2's. You will have the top of the SR line as well. The MS2is are great cans and I could settle with them for quite a bit.

I know that this is a real silly point; but I was having a real serious bout of upgradoitus between MS2i and MS-Pro a few months ago, and one of the things that helped me stay satisfied with my MS2i was the headband....yeah! The Headband!!

They have the same up-scale headband as the RS-2, RS-1 and MS-Pro. Yup; that helped narrow the materials gap and made spending all those extra(400!)bucks for the wood housing and metal bits seem a little less realistic.

....the better sound would be real nice though!

Now if a person isn't used to the extra weight of the aluminum housings and feels that it could be a problem, then it may well be worth an extra 100 bucks for the lighter weight wood.

....I don't know how the RS-2 sounds "exactly"; but I do know that at least to my ears with my system and my favorite kinds of music, the HD600 and MS2i are a great complementary match!

I'll bet the RS-2 would be too!

Hmm.. that's good advice! I like my MS-1's, but I want better separation and soundstage. I think I'm down to the MS2i or the RS-2. I'm not sure if price will play a factor or not

I have spent the last couple of days of the RS2 and really enjoy them. There seems to be more consistency in the sound and quality of the SR325i/MS2i. The new wooden Grados are a gamble. I feel that SR325i/MS2is are less likely to suffer long term on the account of QC. When it comes to the RS line, go vintage or go home.

what's the matter with the new design RS2?
is the SQ got worse?
There is not anything particularly wrong just that the QC is so hit and miss. My RS1s had a few rough finish spots. These vintage RS2s are constructed much better. They just also happen to sound fabulous. It has been mentioned that different era Grados have different sound.

kpeezy: save up the money and go for the RS2, have a good listen to it. Then if you don't like the RS2, trade for the MS2i and you won't lose too much $.
Maybe I am wrong, but I think it would be easier to trade the RS2 for the MS2i+$ than to make trade the other way around.

Very true, very true.
