Many here would totally agree with headroom's evaluation.
Why did you decide to go with Ultrasones in first place, there are may others, less contradicting headphones around? Take Denon AH-D2000, for instance, same price, better comfort, work just fine unamped, killer sound, and not that many negative reviews, if any at all.
I once bought the Beyerdynamic DT 831 based on Headroom's evaluation. A year later their evaluation of the headphone had changed completely. Unfortunately for me, their later evaluation coincided with mine. Headroom generally evaluate Grados badly and they consider the K701 to be the best exisiting headphone (which I found ehhh .... boring). Bottom line, not everyone agree with Headroom
, not even themselves given enough time.
But I do agree, the D2000 is a killer headphone, very good value indeed. It does however lack something I found in my Edition 9, midrange bite or perhaps presence?
The D2000 is a bit too polite and/or polished IMO, this may be a good reason to look at Ultrasones?
