DIY - Enclosures

Thread Starter
I am in building up a few amps at the moment inclusing a B22. I have been looking at cases and have narrowed the choice down to either the HiFi 2000 or ATI Research.

They are both similar in price by the time I take freight to Australia into consideration.

Given that I know a few of you DIYers have used cases form both of these places, what is the general feeling about them.

Do you have any opinions on one versus the other - for any reason?

Cheers

Assuming you are talking about ATI-73xU and HiFi-2000 Galaxy Max serie.
These enclosures are really nice, simple construction but very elegant... unless they look very different.
HiFi-2000 Galaxy is heavier, rigider (due to metal top and bottom plates) comparing to ATI-73xU (100% aluminum).
Moreover, HiFi-2000 offers optional 10mm faceplates in black and silver for the Galaxy Max serie (the stock faceplate is 4mm silver). Whereas ATI comes with fixed 6mm silver faceplate. (However I have 2 ATI-737U, special edition with 8mm faceplates).

I really don't have a preference when it comes to the looks of these enclosures. My choice is more depending on the application.

For hifi2000.it you need to register in order to see the prices and for ATI send them an email.

HiFi2000 has a webshop where you can see the pricing: http://www.modushop.biz/ecommerce/index_l2.php

IMO the HiFi cases are sexay black beauties, but shipping is very expensive.

On balance, to Australia, they ended up being about the same price. HiFi2000 has cheap cases but very expensive freight. ATI has moderately priced cases and moderately priced freight.

Poor fellows living in Canada and Australia...
Just realize that I'm living in Europe where HiFi-2000 enclosures are available at relative low price and low shipping cost

damn the HiFi2000 cases are absolutely sexy! The Ati look cooler but less elegant IMO

Can any of you contrast either (or both) the ATI or HiFi2000 cases with the ParMetals cases? The ParMetals cases are pretty nice, but I would like something closer to commercial hi-end grade.

I don't know if the amps made by this manufacturer can be regarded as commercial hi-end grade, but they are using HiFi-2000 cases with the 10mm optional faceplates, from both the Galaxy (Max) and Slim Line series .

ParMetals cases are fine, but HiFi-2000 cases with the 10mm optional faceplate is clearly of different calibre, in a positive way of course. (Hee... it's not my intention to upset ParMetals cases users! )

Thanks Ferrari,

Just what I was looking for. No disrespect to Parmetals... I've used their cases before and they are a good value.

Do yourself a favor, make some cardboard cutouts of the various pieces that you're trying to fit in the case and mock it up. Finding out after the fact that something doesn't fit is painful!
