Because it is a new model?

I ordered my HD60GD9 yesterday so I should have it in 7 days or so. When I get it I shall try and create a small review on it and include lots of pictures!!

Awesome! I cant wait to hear some reviews on this player... ive got a feeling its going to be my next DAP!

Just FYI. I am thinking buying this one for sure based on what has been said in Japan (reviews). I am currently using HD30GB9 with MOVE BTW.
Apparently, power output has been strengthened which has lead to lower distortion level. White noise is less vs 30GB9. Lower level SQ is better than GB9. Also said, SQ is not hugely different from GB9 (already very good SQ there) but if still it is better, it is still amazing.
If less noise, slightly better SQ (reality, liveness), double-up HD size, this must be a buy.

Some said if you like classic or accoustic, go for 60GD9EC.

Hope this helps.

theres a big differance,

the 20gb and 30gb use toshiba GAL series series hard drive, which is 5mm high, but the 60gb has to go to a GAH series hard drive, which is 8mm due to dual platter, which would raise the price due to a change in the chasis of the player, or it uses a 60GB GAL drive which would be expencive as hell, becuase of using a 1.8" drive platter with the corresponding density to reach 60gb per platter, much more expencive drive,

steph, i guess i would have very little luck asking you to crack it open and check the drive, right ?

No thats not a porblem, I just opened it up, it uses a Seagate Lyrion ST18 series hardrive, which I believe has now changed name to:

http://www.seagate.com/ww/v/index.js...&reqPage=Model.

I have taken a few more pictures of it open but am just figuring out how to upload so could be a few more hours before I get them up!

Thanks

Hmmm... how much hiss does it have with the UM2 at low volumes?

To be honest I personally do not think there is much hiss, but how do you measure it, everyones perseptions are different! The hiss generally tends to increase and decrease dependant on what quality of mp3, the 200+kb/s sounds better.

I was however baffled as to why, when turning on the supreme ex function the sound quality is not as good as using the EQ function. But having said that I used some of the pre loaded demo tracks which were encoded in the Kenwood lossless format and used the supreme ex function with that and it was amazing, and then I tried it with my PA2 and it was even better.

Using standard mp3 formats and um2s unamped (with Custom EQ enabled) it sounds excellent, best mp3 player I have heard to date. As I mentioned in an earlier post, I have just ordered some livewires so I will post a more detailed review, and compare the um2s at the same time, this will also give me chance to become more farmiliar with the player and utilise its full potentioal, and run more tests on it!

There is only one problem I have come across so far and that is scrolling through a large number of artists quickly (ie. getting from A-S) can be a long process, there are several different scroll settings but when activated, don't seem to make any difference!

I'm going to have another look at the japanese manual to see if there is anything I can pick up about it!

Thanks
Steph
