Hi, I see you're found another home in Head-fi...

Are you still looking around for info on customs? Or have you already ordered your Livewires via Jaben?

O.O Who are you

I decided to go with JH5 Pro not through Jaben though... I would be paying double if I were to order from them
And besides if I got the JH5 I would still be paying less then the LW3s if I were to get them from Jaben

Changed my mind about LWs because of the tonnes of horror stories
This thread went from a thread praising LWs to a horror thread
Too much of a gamble for a poor student

That's why customs are a leap of faith...

About the JH5, mind telling me more? I think when I start full-time work there's a chance I'll tackle the JH13's...

It's XiaXueYi here btw.

JH5 is advertised as USD399 right?
Lets add in maybe USD50 shipping?
If I were to take the exchange rate to SGD as 1.5,
USD449 would be SGD673.5.
Add in SGD100 for impressions and shipping over would be about 773.5
But then again, the exchange rate now is less than 1.5
LW3s at Jaben cost SGD780?

I would rather get something from a company with a better reputation. Going to Jaben one of this days to try their demo set again. I can't remember how it sounds like.

Anyway if you ask me I would rather get a TF10 as compared to a set of LW3s because after hearing the sounds of both I felt that the TF10 was much more detailed than the LW3s. It might not be the full effect but I had a rough experience with it when I borrowed my friend's LW3. Just stuffed it against my canals to get a nice seal.

Type "399USD in SGD" in google. I got $565.

And LW3s standalone at Jaben does not cost $780. I paid $688 for them.

And while JH Audio is definitely reputable, I don't think Livewires are "bad" after reading here and there...though of course the "1 week shipping" from UE and JH Audio would be a standard that Livewires would be hard-pressed to meet.

Again, no complains from me, they're a small company, and offering customs at a fraction of a price...

And I guess, to each his own. It's good that you've decided what you really wanted. As for me, I'll be waiting for my 'Trips'...

Well, I feel that Jaben bloats the price too much(SDG1.2k for JH5) and I don't really want to deal with LWs myself after all the problems many people have been going through.

So the next closest would be JH5

Well I really do hope LWs start increasing their capacity and their response time. Maybe then other people looking for customs like me will choose them instead of becoming like me

Anyway,

I really cannot remember where I read it, I think it was this or another forum, but the person quoted Jerry Harvey himself as saying something along the lines of him hearing the custom IEMs, and saying that they do indeed improve in sound over time.

If one of the foremost leaders of the custom makers says this, I'm sure that burning in of IEMs (and especially customs) is more than simply placebo.
good to know.
8 hours down. i'm getting used to it, but it still feels weird.

There are times people don't have the capability of online payment...or that some things are hard to procure (e.g. certain manga and anime) and that's when we should be thankful for middlemen.

Of course then, there are those who want to save as much money as possible, and wanting to know where it went.

I'm sure that LW's customer base is strong enough for the business to keep rolling in. If the sound is good, I too will spread the word.

Tell me about the total cost of the JH5 once you've gotten it...

Yeah.

I'd better try my best to fish out where I read that though, there are people in head-fi and elsewhere that frown upon the cooking of stories...

And you must be enjoying your LWs, huh? As for me, I shall be patiently (and not-so-patiently) waiting for my pair...

OKAY. All this comfort i'm hearing people talk about, i'm not seeing it.
These are no more comfortable than wearing my ADDIEMs, and i can't do so for much longer!
That being, i can't stand it for much more than an hour at a time!
granted, it's been only 6 days, but where is all the "it disappears in my ears" and "i can wear them for hours and hours".

The seal, is good (enough), but the comfort is WAY off. it feels like there is something in my ear! something large, and particularly painful, especially in my right ear. they feel too deep, like something is prodding the inside of my ear.

perhaps it'll take a few more days.

another thing i'm finding, is that they're pretty bass heaving, lacking detail in the vocals and details in the highs.
I still can't get over how weak the drums sound, almost completely across the board in what i listen to. the symbols sound as if they're covered in cloth, and the snare as if in a distance.

Is this normal? I don't think the sound is due to fit, because the bass has lots of detail and quality... but i wouldn't know.

Let Jaben know about it.

That doesn't sound like a normal fit or the normal sound with these. Can't tell you where the problem is though. Sorry.

I contacted livewires, and they said they have a few modifications that may remedy this... i'm probably going to drive up friday, or the weekend.

my current theory, is they go too deep, causing the nozzle to push up against the flesh of my ear, thus partially blocking off the treble-driver's bore. I might then be raising the volume to compensate, also explaining why the bass is so overwhelming... yeahh...

I gotta say, initially i was pretty surprised. i'm was certain it was not just me, because i agree with most reviews on the other phones about bass/mids/highs, and the general feeling i've gotten from this thread and some reviews, is that the livewires are pretty neutral and bright. I even heard someone (can't remember who) compare them to grados... but these make my UE super.fi 5 pro's sound absolutely sparkly in comparison.

Quick update. I've received back my IEM from Fidelity Audio. Now it is much better. My left ear is great, but my right one is too big. Sound is great but gets uncomfortable after 10-15 min. Will have to sand it down a bit, but at least sound quality is great (they are dual) and the seal is excellent.

I also want to say that Catherine was always helpful and that it was always easy to reach them by phone.

Luckily JH allows people to just contact and send their impressions over unlike UE and Westone whereby we have to go thru a middleman ( SE and Jaben in SG).

But if there's a problem with your fit/manufacturing defect with ur JH5 it would mean that you would have to absorb the costs of the shipping and ear impressions again though.

Hmmm.
