sorry for a little off-topic here but what happened to this thread? Last time I was here it was 300 pages, now it's only 206?

Did you recently change you page views to show 15 posts per page instead of 10?

hahahahaha well I don't know why but before I ordered my livewires John was so good about answering my emails after they got my impressions he has not gotten back to me at all /shrug. I just hope to see them soon

Just to update. Still haven't got a Boa loan, but have got a Predator and Pico loan (same person). Shame, as i really want to try a Boa before i buy. Will be able to see how the Boa stands with the top dac's to my ears.

Shipping is expensive due to insurance, and i want to hear the best it can be (see how much better my livewires can sound... Could never afford either! Just interested) so instead of getting a loan on both, i want to choose one (for now!) due to money problems.

So, which will sound best with the Livewires, a Predator or a Pico?

Please reply ASAP, I need to let the guy know today (Still got 23 hours 27mins!) which i want, and maybe get it tomorrow (insurance that high means we can only use next day)

So which should i try based on which sounds best with the Livewires?

Can't wait to see how much better it can get, and eventually how bang for buck the Boa is!

Thanks Alot,

Matt

I think the HeadphoneAddict's great review can help you.

Personally, though I'm not sure which is better, I used Pico with my LW and I was happy.

Livewires sound good with everything. Just order a D2 Boa and get it over with.

Hmmm the Pico doesn't come with a converter for the power supply to use in the UK. Does it charge/run via/off USB like i thought it did? If i use it as an amp, it will be charged as it will have been charged when used as a DAC? Is it possible to charge it by usb and use it as an amp? (Probably wont need to, but i may run out of juice while sitting next to my laptop. I do want to test the amp, and do like my D2's interface sometimes, even when i could just use winamp on the laptop/pc!)

If i dont have an issue with not having external power then im not sure which to choose. If not having the ability to use external power then i will go for the Pred, as i can use it as a DAC with USB power, and charge it via USB while in use, and charge it while using it as an amp, no need for an external power supply.

Larry, i will after trying a Boa I always worry my ears wont notice a difference, as i find lossless to be a bit over rated. And anyway, id love to know how much better it can get, and the Pred and Pico are really top-tier. I love to test things out

EDIT:
Hmmm, thought the Pred would be a better match. I trust Larry. And it sounds like the power options are better considering I dont have a US to UK converter that i would need for the Pico and its charger. In the end i will probably end up trying both out of curiosity of which I like best, however that will cost me another £10 that i could put towards a Boa, however i cant resist trying at least one

Yet they work fast in other things... as they charged my credit card THE SAME DAY my impression and order form arrived to their lab.

No I have always had my account set to 15 posts per page....maybe this has to do with that outage and lost posts.

Pico and Predator does not charge through the USB, only AC. I believe Pico was shipped with a universal worldwide charger, 100-240V as mine came with that. The predator too. Just that you need to get an adapter for the 2 flat pin to 3 pin for UK.

My experience was similar. Great pre-sale service, non existent service once I sent them my impressions and $$. And just FYI since someone asked my turn-around time was just over the 3-week estimate. I think it took just over 4 weeks including return shipping to me. I've only had them for a few days and with limited time to listen. My initial impression is that it is impossible to use them without an amp to serve as an attenuator to eliminate the hiss. Straight out of my Ipod Touch they are unlistenable unfortunately. I did experiment briefly with an Ety PtoS converter cable and that significantly tamed the hiss out of the Touch but I'm not sure I want to be tied to using that adapter cable every time I use them. In full fairness to Livewires they did warn me about the potential for hiss because of their extremely high sensitivity but I didn't think it would be as bad as it is proving to be. Of course the whole reason that I went with Livewires in the first place was their 30 day money back offer, which is rare with custom IEMs. I hope to find a long term solution that keeps me from having to take them up on that offer.

I also meant to add that I'm impressed with the fit and finish of the product. In that respect I'm 100% satisfied.

why don't you get a amp?

I have one. It's more of not wanting to always have to use it. It's not at all convenient in some cases, in fact most cases where I want to use the Livewires. Also, I do find it somewhat unreasonable to expect a buyer to purchase additional equipment to use a product. Even their optional 50ohm cable would be insufficient based on my experience so far.
