Sept 16 Impressions - 6th day - using the stock Livewires only:

33g Cardas silver cable - I have over 100 hours on them already. They sound about the same as they did 12 hours ago this morning, and the increase in sound volume when switching to these has been pretty much burned out of them. They are much fuller and balanced sounding than my first listen on the 11th when they had only 20 hours on them, and I am really liking them now that the sheen of brightness is burned off (I see this with silver cables all the time - my APS V3 cables mellowed out by 50 hours and were all burned-in by 100 hours).

I have listened last night and tonight via headphone-out of my Apogee mini-DAC. Switching to the D2 Viper with LM4562/LM6172 tonight they are not too bright anymore (I fried the LTC6241HV, don't ask). This cable is very detailed and clear, transparent, and bass is strong and solid. I don't have any complaints about them right now, as they now sound more like Livewires should rather than like a K701 5 days ago (a good thing in my opinion). Wow! These might move up to first place for me now, but not by a large margin. The physical thin-ness of the actual cable is still a concern of mine, although Steven says they are very strong and it takes a lot of force to break them. If I owned these I would most likely use these at home, and the stock cable when I am out and about.

26g Silver Plated Copper- still sounds nice, not quite as detailed as the 33g Cardas (no change there). Retains the original sound signature with that 10% inprovement all around that I mentioned previously, but these have a little more mid-range energy than the 33g Cardas. So they are slightly more forward than the Cardas, while the JL are slightly more forward than these. These feel strong enough to take abuse, or fall asleep wearing, and will cost less money than the Cardas 33g cable. I almost wish the 33g Cardas hadn't improved with burn-in, to make my decision about which to buy easier.

Jenna Labs - I also put over 100 hours on the cable with my second pair of Livewires. It retains the same basic sound signature at 24/48/72 hours, with slightly bumped upper mids like some (not all) Grados and Audio technica headphones, but not intrusive and not as bad as the ATH-W11R or ATH-W5000. It takes less time to adjust to the change in sound signature than anytime before. It's more detailed than the 26G SPC cable, but I now slightly prefer the other two cables more, while I still like this cable more than the stock cable.

Hi Larry, do you have a chance to try Steve's cable directly out of iPod headphone out? I'm sure Steve's cable would beat the stock cable but I'm still wondering how much the different between each cables out of headphone out will be..

Ahhh, Silver Plated Copper

I just skim read it fast the other day, sorry

Hmmm, i'm sure steve said he would send a cable that sounded more balanced, i hope it is the plated copper one... I wonder if it is stronger than the stranded silver bassy cable i had... I hope so, i was afraid to use the other, imagine the solid silver!

The other night, after 100 hours on it, I felt the 33g Cardas sounds best when using Livewires right out of my 5.5 iPod Video and iPhone. But tonight the SPC sounds just as good to me via iPhone headphone out, although it is still very slightly more forward than the Cardas. The cables all sound the same tonight as they did last night. I am hoping to have another brand of Livewires cable to test vs these by the 30th, so Steven is letting me hang onto them a little longer.

I would buy one of the two (33g Cardas or 26g SPC), but at this point I cannot decide based on sound alone. I still have an issue with the 33g Cardas being so thin and easy to tangle, but it could make a good "at home" audiophile cable, and the stock cable could be for roaming around town. The little bit of extra detail with the 33g is very compelling though.

The JL cable just doesn't make sense for me right now, due to microphonics (from bumping and not so much from rubbing) and the very slight upper mids boost (although it sounds great if you've had SE530 drivers shoved into your Livewires ).

The SPC is just the right thickness.

Did anyone get some response from EarPeace recently? I sent my pair to them to repair incipient failures two weeks ago, but no reply yet. And they haven't replied to all my e-mail reminders. My god, where are my LiveWires? ;(

Do not count on them if you are expecting email confirmation from them, I never receive any emails after I've sent my ear impressions to them too and it was me that call them to confirm. So, I advice you to call them instead.

Well, I'm very close to buying myself some livewires.

I've been on the hunt for a good set of circumaurals for my cheaper / more functional (see sig) portable rig.. but haven't really been satisfied with any of the options within a price under five hundred. Hell, under 900

So I'm going to give IEMs a run. I'm alright with them, but definitely won't take one that doesn't really go in the ear - like a Yuin PK1 I couldn't be with because of this. I need the secure fit and seal.. sooo not going to bother with that game

So, in about a week I should be placing my order. I'll have to find my way to get the ear impressions, though - that will be the real hold up. Larry has someone by where he lives, I gather, but that's a hefty trip for something so cheap and quick. I may phone the guys over at Westone (who are in Colorado) and ask them if they'd have any recommendations for the Denver area

As long as they're keepers, I'm sure I'll choose a recable from Steven according to which seems like what I'd like changed or improved on or kept the same

I can't decide on colors... I really want a silver connector piece, not gold! The black 'mod'd ones look alright but lkdsfsdf. And I also need to know what the recables look like I just don't like the way the gold or black connector look over the black plate.. I think I want black plates with clear insides

Pics Larry or Steven!

Is colours really important of affecting the decision over an audiophile IEM? Well, at least to me it is not, the colour options is only a plus to me if I have a choice what I like, but if it doesn't, that will be absolutely ok to me. Most importantly, I'm getting the Livewires as it has been praised by so many owners, and I wanted something that sound really nice to me for what I paid for. And I'm not sure if the gold connector really that awful to many, but it is absolutely a sleek design to me, really no complaint here. Also, I think I have the same preference like you though, I've selected black plates too and the clear for the shell, and I wish for the black connectors, but after seeing the real thing whic I got from Steven, I've no more keen about turning it black. The connectors are really stunning to me now, at least to me.

It's difficult to call them because I live in Japan and am not well about English speaking Although I got some relief from you that they were at least active, thanks.

no worry, I'm Chinese too, and I don't speak English well too, and don't worry, make it a try, I was surprised the lady did understand me whatever I tried to speak to her, I spoke to John the first time too, he didn't understand some questions I tried to ask in the first place, but after some repeats, he got what I wanted to ask. Trust me, they are very patient and friendly, try to give them a call, I'm sure it is the best way to communicate with them, or esle, you will be like me, ended up clueless if my ear impressions reached their hands yet, I was very happy the lady told me they got them.

And John was really friendly, the first question he asked me was where did I know about his product, and he told me he really appreciate my order. But I was only a little bit dissappointed like you and wish that they should be more responsive to international orders as communicating though emails is the most convinient way for us.

I'm into aesthetics - and this is totally not a scenario where my aesthetic indulgences are going to be compromising or relating to the sound (function) in any way

Question - and forgive me if this was covered in the thread already, but

How are these things on hissing? Their sensitivity is so high. I am wondering how they will fair out of both a headphone out on an ipod, and, perhaps more importantly (to me), how they will fair out of a portable amp

I am thinking to use the minibox-e+ because of the low gain as well as the impedance switch - but of course who says that 75 impedance is the exact amount I'd want to add to address the hiss issue. Or that they would not decline in worse ways from using an impedance adapter

Larry? Steve? Anyone - got some expertise on this w/ the livewires?

Has anyone upgraded to LWs from Super Fi 5 pros? I'm considering it. Can anyone give me their experiences?

LiveWires sound great out of a decent low gain headphone amplifier. Right now I am using mine with a Tomahawk. They don't hiss with the amp but straight out of the D2 they hiss a bit.
