Livewires - California Dreamin' - Page 137

It was 5 months from when i was offered them to when i sent in my impressions and recieved them. More than FMT's wait, although i could have had them sooneer if i wanted, actually i couldnt, i couldnt get impressions done easily.

I was offered them in october, and got them late March!

Mmmm, REM's new album, liking it. Bit heavier than the older ones? Or is it just me?

Baines, deja vu?

I just received my Livewires about 5 minutes ago.

I am lucky. 100% great seal. This is awesome. They are super-comfortable.

Only issue so far: there is hiss with EVERYTHING. Even my iBasso D1. Especially with my 1st Generation iPod, wow. But it can be ignored once music is playing.

I think the issue is with noisy players. Get a MP4 player with a good or dedicated audio chip in it and there will be no hiss.

You'll find the iBasso D1 level of hiss can be dependent on the opamps combo used. But it's also a difficult amp with such sensitive IEMs because you get little volume control 'play'.

Glad you've got a great seal first time. Enjoy!

Ah, don't make me get a new setup!

I have to stick with iPods for certain (huge discount) reasons. But what about a decent amp for the Livewires? A used Tomahawk from the FS forums maybe? Any thoughts?

In other notes, I used them outside walking around downtown and also on the MetroRail today. The level of isolation is absolutely perfect! More than a closed headphone, but less than the SE530s or ER6is that I've tried. With the Etys i would literally miss the bus if I was reading an email on my phone and didn't see it in my peripheral vision. That's dangerous for crossing the street as well as costly as I'd have to grab a cab to make it to work at a reasonable hour sometimes.

Sound-wise I will not make any judgements yet, but I'm reasonably satisfied.

Glad to year seal is great. I had custom tips for my UE TF's and now my Custom SuperFreQs (SFs) and both times they were a "tad" small (both done with professional impressions). Of course after the remake the custom tips are perfect, but I still need to send back my SFs to have them "fixed"

Were your impressions done open mouth or closed mouth?

Will

Depends on what you're seeking in SQ and how much you want to spend. And whether you even need an amp with the efficient Livewires.

(I choose one for improved SQ - have a Toma available if you're interested - PM me).

I was thinking, I was using my Ety's today, and realised the fantastic seal the foam offers (imho Ety > LW).

But you reckon LW would ever consider going down the universal line, I prefer the LWs over the TF10s now, I did some AB last nite, unamped, and the TF10s bass was waaay to overpowering fo rmy liking.

Tomahawk wise: I reckon it would make a good mix, the Predator I am using is a great pair to the LWs, I still like my LWs unamped as well

So I'm listening to Beegees - How Deep is your love right now through my SR60s but out of my laptop (Cowon D2 is in the room, where the GF is sleeping) and it sounds pretty nice.

I say all that cuz I can't WAIT to hear this out of the Livewires out of the Cowon D2 :-D

Will,

I got my impressions done by Mary Sue Harrison, an Audiologist in Katy, TX (outside of Houston). When I asked her how often she does impressions of ears, she told me she does at least a couple per week specifically for IEMs, and plenty more for hearing aids.

And, as I was asking her more questions about how she's done impressions for the NASA astronauts (being, Houston, that's a no-brainer), the members of U2, Dave Matthews Band, and Jeff Gordon, she was shooting the mold in my ears and doing the impressions!

So, my mouth was both open and closed during the impressions, because i was talking Dr. Harrison didn't instruct me either way, and I ended up with some great impressions!

You have a link to the recabling info from S2? I can't seem to navigate their website easily, and I've been meaning to recable my DT990s.

Hope those turn out ok and she has nice resume of people she has done them for, but myself after having them done two times I would have insisted on using the bite block with mouth open. I think most everyone on the list here would agree.

Best of Luck!

Here's my experience at the audiologist today:

I'm subscribed to this thread still, but ultimately went with Freqs (improved recent build quality, able to use my iPhone cable and price, in case you're wondering). Thought this info would help the next person going to get impressions. Good luck with your LW!
