I'm after a digital camera so I can take all those really close up images and post away like everybody else.
I used an Olympus C770 Ultra Zoom.

Only 4 megapixel but makes up for the fact by having a 10x zoom. Has a good array of settings including macro and super macro. You dont need lots of mp's for forums anyway, and 4mp is good enough for my laptops 15.4.

They have been discontinued, but second hand you should be able to get one for around $200. I will upgrade mine when i'm older, but its a great cam, and with skill, it still takes great photos. Here are some of my not so good pics from my holiday last week, http://www.head-fi.org/forums/4074289-post1145.html

I think when you get around to buying your own amp, you could consider the minibox E+ because it has the P to S switch that might take out the hiss from the source (adds 72 ohm) - however it might hurt the bass a little and I was told the livewires prefer only 50 ohms added.

Does the Super Macro III you have include the "impedance" switch that you can try, or is it the switchless model? Maybe someone here will post what their PtoS switch does to the sound?

Also, the $39 Headstage USB DAC cable does a decent job, and doesn't have hiss problems. It didn't sound as good on my "el cheapo" PC as it does on my Mac, but I am told if you install ASIO4ALL driver and use Foobar to play music, the USB DAC's will sound much better with Windows.
Thanks. Thats alot coming from you!

Yes it does, but with music on that creates more hiss, if i'm correct that switch is the 3rd or so isn't it? Must be too many ohms.

Yes, i like the look of the minibox, and i could also get the cable dac if i had some money, if i am right, i couldn't connect the livewires straight to the dac could i? If so, i would get a Cowon D2, no amp and be done.

the only problem I have about waiting for the impressions is that the only day I have free each week is sundays. And unfortunately, most of the places here to get impressions are closed Sundays.

That will all change in like three weeks or so when the baseball season ends. So 2-3 weeks is the max I will have to wait .

I am truly excited, I am having my mom put the correct amount on my card as we speak. (I can't wait until I am in total control of my own finances)
That's great news! Welcome.

Do the new ones have the black low profile connectors instead of the gold ones?

Sorry if this is already said, I cant justify reading 188 pages of thread to find it.

I don't hear any hiss, unless I'm listening to poor recordings. Even then when music is playing you don't hear it. If I have heard any hiss, it has been so minor i don't even think about it.

The Clix2 SQ is very good.

Been lurking in this thread for the last week or so (read many of the first pages, and back to 160 from the latest), and thought I would post.

I'm seriously considering get a pair of Livewires. There's something about customs that I can't shake (kinda like the pull of tube amps). Some so personal and esoteric that I'm finding appealing. That and the estimated expenditure is only around $300.

I honestly don't have much NEED for it. I don't travel a lot (although this may change as I get busier at work). I don't need or want such isolation while at work or home. My work and home rigs are keeping me plenty happy. But the itch is still there.

If anyone can comment about the following things, I'd appreciate it. I'm sure much of it is buried in the pages here, but a few searches and jumping around hasn't revealed answers:

- Impressions -- go to an audiologist, they clean your ears, do the mold (per instructions on LW order sheet). Seems to be some debate on mouth open, closed, biting. I guess I'll just have to trust the audiologist... Do I get the impressions when I leave that day? Then I box them up and send to LW, right?

- 50-ohm resistance cable -- My searches have revealed that Mr. Diles says not to get one unless you're dissatisfied with the sound as it puts a "film" on the sound. I'm assuming this is straight from an iPod or DAP. What about running this through a Pico (which has high and low gain settings) or other similar amp? Can anyone share experiences with stock vs. 50-ohm with Pico, Predator or comparable amp?

- Amp or not -- I am still debating in my head whether I want to travel with my (1) iPhone and separate iPod+Pico, (2) buy a iPhone LOD and connect to Pico, or (3) go straight into iPhone with adapter of course. No question here, just spelling it out...

- Hiss -- The jury appears still out on whether there is a hiss straight out of a DAP. If I'm going to get a hiss from LW direct from iPhone or iPod, I'll likely add the amp (and then likely the 50-ohm cable). I'll keep more of any eye out about hiss reports.

- Now there appears to be more cord color choices, too. Possibly clear cables, possibly black connectors (from LW), and possibly combinations of the two. Truthfully, I don't think I minded the original black cable with gold connectors.

I guess I'm going to ping Livewire and see what the current backlog is and ask some of the questions above. Curious to hear your thoughts, as well.

Thanks!

Baines, you'd need an amp with the $39 DAC cable but if you can't use the PtoS (72ohm) consider that my $69 PenguinAmp Caffeine Pro sounds just like my HeadSix, which would cost $185 now! I don't regret the headsix because it supports Meier and Head-Fi.

So, you could get both at the same time, and with the separate DAC you can also feed your stereo from your laptop.

For the current time, while the Caffeine is sold out, Robert is offering the Lyrix Pro for $89 at the Penguin site (normally $119). For some silly reason I bought another one

FMT, i just phoned EarPeace. And i'm lucky enough to talk to John Diles *since he is in the office! woohooo* And i've asked him about if they're planning to release a stock black Connector instead of the "painted" ones. The conclusion that John told me was that they still have to solve a connectivity issue if they are going to release the cables with the "black connector". Hopefully they'll get this solve in the near future. hehehe
*John Diles is just SO NICE!!! It's always happy to talk to him! woohooo*
Hope neither one of you got disappointed by this!
Cheers,

Oh, so they are getting fully black connectors now? Not a DIY job like a couple of us requested and got. I will spray mine properly sometime though, myself.

Mmmmm, im tempted to wait for 32gb cards to arrive, and get to a reasonable price, and get a 2gb dab d2. That gives me 34gb, and if the UI is good enough, i would just ditch using the laptop with the livewires, and just use the d2.

Or i get the fully black connecter-ed 50ohm cable. The hiss is very bad, even through the lineout, and amped! Maybe john would let me swap my cable for the 50ohm one?

I dont like the bulk of an amp, and didnt hear a huge difference, so the d2, with expandable memory, and dab would be great portable, and would stay in my pocket when i get home too.

I dont get email replys often anymore, so cant be bothered to try, although i need a re-dip i think too. Must contact him today!!

EDIT: Ok, too slow! I may get the 50ohm, and spray it black myself, properly, and keep the zen, although upgraditis is hitting, i want a d2 so bad, its the perfect dap for me, even without dab, and the cable may make the laptop better on low volumes too. Wonder how bad the "film" is, to my ears.

Or anyone want to trade a D2 24gb+ for a 30gb Zen Vision M, Best Skin Ever'd, unscrachable, and modded themes, and a pair of CX300's and/or ER6i's and 14 pairs of different tips?

Think i could get that trade? I may try.

Matt
