I think I got caught up in the build for all the American Idol people. And since that was a time sensitive priority build I think I got pushed aside for a little while. That's ok with me as long as they took care of the sound quality and stereo image problems that were present.

Can't wait to get them back, but they need to be right.

Hi my name is Carlos.... after weeks of reading 100+ pages of this thread (I finally register) I e-mail livewires.. 20 minutes later they reply with info. they have an authorize dealer here in NYC. only 2 blocks from work so this friday I pay them a visit(and $300 dollar less in my wallet)so this is the combo that I got... R. Red/Black---- L Clear/Black.
My current set up is... shure E2 and ipod nano 2nd G.
now my first question is do I need an amp with my livewires?
Damn you head.fi

Revel, yes, damn Head-Fi!

For some reason, I think a portable amp is more necessary for IEMs than headphones. I can drive my HD580s through my iPod headphone out fine. IEMs (especially customs) are prone to background hiss, which annoy me more than anything. If you get a portable headphone amp like the iBasso D2 for $200, the background hiss will be almost nonexistent (unless it's part of the recording).

Thanks Powertoold for a fast respond! I was looking at the iBasso T2 for it size! I'm not really a hardcore audiophile. but I do like a very clean sounding set up. and where can I get those nice looking(LOD) the very short one.
so let's see.... so far.... Livewires, ipod nano + amp+ LOD. I feel sorry for my wallet already.

Hi Carlos. Welcome to Head-Fi and the Livewires family, and sorry about your pocket!

Gosh, that's handy to have a dealer so close. When do you expect to receive your Livewires?

If you want to keep your setup portable, I would just keep using the LW's from the headphone out.
They are some of the most efficient earphones out there, you can drive them to deafening levels from pretty much anything.

Adding a good amp + interconnect would probably run you another $150-300 looking at head-fi standards, this is a lot of money for just a hiss attenuator.
Unless you are really anal about hiss, or listen to a lot of music that have quiet passages, that is not necessary at all IMO.

Well I listen to a lot of latin..Merengue,salsa,reggaeton(spanish reggae)I also listen classic rock.... eagles.rollin stones,america....with the shures I don't hear any hiss. the only thing I don't like about the shures is... that I use the orange foamies. and I feel that after 1 weeks of use I loose the seal(they don't last too long)

Welcome Revel!

Enjoy them. They are so good, the sound is so balanced all across the spectrum, perfect for everything.

I advise trying them w/o an amp first may be ok, but mine hiss from my Zen VM. The amp i have on loan reduces the hiss substancially, but isnt very quiet, maybe better batteries or the latest updates may help.

Welcome, and sorry about your wallet!!

Matt
