Livewires - California Dreamin' - Page 75

Well I e-mail'ed LW to get a list of audiologists in my area: Montreal and plan on getting these. Hopefully my experience goes smooth. Sorry to hear about all your troubles FMT.

Say, I am curious, is the volume much lower when using the 50 ohm cable?

Ask your audiologist about this, I'm sure someone could buff out your Livewires in your city and make them clear and smooth.

I had to send mine back about the time you sent yours back, but not for fit, but for the sound as the stereo image was not centered in the middle. I checked the ohms on each ear piece and the right ear had less ohms making it a tinch louder which caused the stereo image to be off center to the right.

I guess I should get them back hopefully next week.

Awwww FMT that sucks. Hope your experiance gets better. Maybe new impressions are really needed? Your audiologist should do them for free this time, as they mucked up.

Mine come soon!

Customs shouldn't hurt at the initial insertion, but after an hour or two, you may feel some pain, but this pain goes away after about a week or two. If there is a lot of pain with insertion, I wouldn't recommend using it. It can make some bruises in your ear.

I hope it works out for you.

** I'm sort of disappointed in the LW company. They should have told you that there was little chance they would be able to fix it without new impressions... Instead they just sanded it, and now it looks ugly. Now you have to send it back once again with new impressions unless you want a refund.
Yeah, I am not happy at the final product, looks used, and not as nice as the clear LiveWires most of you have. For the $400 I have already spent on Earphones, Postage, Taxi etc, I really am not seeing the benefit.

I am reluctant to get new impressions as they will set me back another $50! I am not made of money, but I am looking for a good audio solution - so far it's TF10s

Actually, with the 50ohm cable the volume is lower, it's an improvement over the stock cable, but still not what I expected. I need to use EQ on Treble reducer.

Now I know it's not my ears, as I was extremely happy and comfortable with the Etymotic ER4p, IMHO the brightest earphone.

The LWs, I can best desribe like this:

Imagine three young children: Low, Mid, and High.

When sound comes out, the 3 kids are like:
Low - Oh hey I am here, I'll just sit down and go doof.
Mid - Hey, I'm here, but yeah
High - OMGOMGOMG LOOOK AT MEEEEEEE!

Highs are there, but are not detailed, still pierce my ears, compared with the TF10s, which are perfect. I am even preferring the SF5 over the LWs.

I will still give the LWs more of a chance, I have been very, very, very patient with the LiveWires team, and still feel they have a chance to prove it to me, but I am at a point where I can't continue spending money. This wasn't supposed to take so long and cost so much, but it has.

Alas, I will continue with it, but there right now, I am not a satisfied customer, even just based on aesthetics, I paid $249 for a nice pair of earphones, that doesn't have sandmarks on it. I was under the impression that the LW team would have buffed and cleaned, because I could have done the same thing and had the marks. The main reason I sent to them was to sand it - even though I was skeptical - and shine them, so when they send back it looks new.

I will contact the team to see what they say, but, there's the possibility that I will not become a happy member of the LW family.

I hope this doesn't discourage anyone to buy, I am merely stating my own experience, unfortunately, I have had to go through this. I was advised at the high level of customer service, although at times, really doubted that.

I will keep you updated to the best of my abilities, and we will see how it goes.

Will try and get pics up to see whether I am making a mountain out of a molehill on the looks factor. On sound factor, still not satisfied, considering I still prefer my SF5s. Comfort factor, is better than last time, initial insertion is great and first 1/2 hour is good, but then I start getting a few pains, seal isn't something to brag about. I still don't thing I am getting 100% seal, as at times - especially on softer music such as classical - the outside world is audible to me, I can hear cars, phones etc.

Stay Tuned, To Be Continued .......

I am very sorry to hear this...I know the very feeling after spending large amounts of money only to be disappointed in the end. I am very glad I didn't take the leap. I will now have to sit quietly and wait for the Westone 3s when they appear. At least you have two great phones though, the Er4P and the Tr10s to enjoy your music.

ER4's are on their way to Etymotic for repair, I emailed LW, let's see what they make of this, I am still adamant there may be issues with the actual drivers.

Ok

Will do some noise burn in for about 8 hours overnight.

Right now, using a modified cable by Webbie (not 50ohm). Using an Ety P->S cable, and seems to be behaving!

You may also be jinxed!

Sorry to hear about your problems. I saw your love for TF10's in another thread so I can't understand why you're looking for more phones!?

Anyway, perhaps you should just return your Livewires, as this doesn't seem to be going well for you.
Kosmic, the TF10s were an impulse buy, just cause they were at an affordable price.

My ideal end was having: 1x custom (LW), 1x top high end (TF10), 1x medium iem (SF5), 1x detailed iem (ER4), 1x open headphone (SR80), 1x bud (PK1), 1x clipon (KSC75)

I have that, and I am going to be patient and persevere with the LWs, I know they will work for me somehow!

Yeah, i think its gotta be the drivers, as they only sanded them, so didnt crack them open or redip.

If you find the ER4's ok, these shouldnt have piercing highs.

Maybe if they go back for a new driver/crossover stuff then see your audiologist and say they dont fit. They should redo them for free as they are not right...Mine said she would, as she has never had to have anyone come back, so it should be ok though. She demanded open and closed, for the cost of one

You might want to have your audiologist check the LW's with an audio spectrum analyzer. This is a way you can see what the audio spectrum curve looks like that you are listening to. Then you know the facts about the audio and the results may explain a few things about the quality.

Best of Luck.

I tend to agree - even with unique ear characteristics it seems hard to understand piercing highs on LWs and not on ER4s.

AFAIK your audiologist would need to complete the job, even given the timeframe concerned, as it is a claimable item on private health insurance in Australia and the insurer could become involved as well to support rework if the original wasn't to the spec required.

But I'd just ask in the first place. Like others have said, most audiologists are more than happy to do this - it's not that unusual a request for them (a range of clients - hearing impaired, etc - who may need rework) and it's not unduly time consuming for them.

To all LiveWires' owners outside USA who payed with credit card:

How safe is the payment and what ensures its safety? Is it only a matter of trust, a gentlemen's agreement between me and LiveWires that they won't use the information about the credit card for anything else but my purchase? At least in Poland it is not customary for a company to ask about details of a credit card, which would then be travelling half the world in a package, which might get lost or opened by a wrong person.

I already emailed John asking this question, but since he's away, it will take a lot of time before I get my response (based on how long it takes him to respond when he's not away).
