iCans

I've been eyeing these ultrasones for awhile, mostly because I do not have a pair of ultrasones in my collection and I generally find I use portables more than the home cans. What always keeps me from pulling the trigger is the general lack of threads/ posts on these.

Can anyone chime in with recent opinions of these. I would be using them with an unamped DAP (ipod or cowon). Listening to mostly rock, acoustic and jazz.

Thanks...

They're a little on the bright side but have good soundstage for protables. They aren't really suited for outdoor use because they rest on the ears lightly and they don't isolate at all. They're great for computer use though. The mids are lightly recessed but they have pretty tight bass.

Thanks brook, I do like my sq- bright. How do they compare to Grados? Do they sparkle like the 60s.

Yes...I would say that the highs and detail are on par with the Grados. The main difference lies in the mids. The Grados are more forward and the iCans are more recessed. But for shoegaze, and other types of music, recessed mids can be nice.

I found a pair of new icans for 40 bucks (+ship) on ebay. I like them. They have a different sound, but I like that you can hear the detail with very little volume. Kinda big for portables but a good find. I am surprised they are not more appreciated around here.
